Hi Charis, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
After being a travel nurse through the pandemic, I began to feel a sense of burnout. As a nurse of nine years, I no longer desired the long hours along with unfair nurse wages. I honestly have no idea where the idea came from to open my own business was, but I ran with it. I heard about a class to certify nurses to become nurse injectors. I’ve always had a love for the beauty industry, hair, make-up, and fashion but never knew which line was mine to own.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This has bar far been a bumpy road. I can honestly say entrepreneurship is not for the faint at heart. I started my business following a pandemic, without any loans or grants, all while being a single mother of two and a full-time nurse. The struggle has definitely been real; however, each year Èlan Beauty Bar has made such progression, which tells me I’ must be doing something correct.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
People may know me as a Registered ER Nurse here in Houston as well as Licensed in other states. People now are beginning to know me as “The Traveling Nurse.” I’ve made my business Mobile; that way, I can meet my clients at their place of comfort to be serviced. I’m most proud of my two children, Nyla-Nikkole and Champion. Literally, everything I do is with them in mind. I think the thing that sets me apart from others is my personality and just being me. People tend to gravitate to me for some reason.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
5-10 years from now, I’d love to see my business franchised. I’d love to have my business everywhere! By goal by this time is to be able to employee other nurses I know, friends, and family. I’d love to one day be able to employee the nurses and professionals in my family.
