Today we’d like to introduce you to Chef Laay
Hi Chef, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I found my passion for cooking back in 2020 but always grew up watching my grandmother in the kitchen as a little girl I started off by cooking for my mother and my siblings as I grew wiser with my cooking and learned new recipes I would always post my food on social media and eventually I was talked into selling plates which was a slow grind but it grew after a year I now cater for the masses and have became a private chef I re introduced myself as the lamb chop queen towards the end of 2024 when I found that to be my specialty and the name has helped me become more known I couldn’t be more proud of myself I would also say my mom played a big role in supporting me even when I have doubts in my business she gives great advice on how to make it better and my family also plays a big part in my business because they make sure to promote me as much as possible I now love what I do and enjoy meeting new clients from all different states i was always told if you find something you love and make it your job you’ll never feel like you are working I enjoy catering, cooking and it’s my peace in this crazy world I enjoy the reactions I get from my clients & my love ones they are the ones who keep me going and motivated to learn more and grow bigger in this industry.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
During 2020 till now trying to grow my business it was hard having to work a 9-5 support myself but also make content just like a 9-5 and learn how to market myself it wasnt cheap starting my business due to the fact that it cost money to make money I would save up my plate money and use it towards my business for new props photo shoots and much more now I have caught my balance and now my business pays for its self through my large clientele I have grew from the ground up and I thank god for allowing me to succeed and continue to grow and I thank my clients for trusting me with there events I wouldn’t be successful without the support from them.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a private chef better know as the lamb chop queen or you can call me chef Laay I am located in downtown Houston and I specialize in lamb chops I offer private dinners and catering for the masses no catering is to small or to big for me I welcome them all I’m proud of myself for being the first chef in my family from my mothers side and my dads side and having to start from scratch since I had to figure it out on my own in this industry and I’m happy for all of the Amazing chefs I have met along the way and the relationships I have created I’m proud that I’m finally growing my business and it’s where I want it to be and only getting bigger the difference between me and other chefs in Houston is the energy I bring I make all my clients feel comfortable and cater to their needs because at the end of the day the clients are what makes a business they are the top priority I also get a lot of compliments on my professionalism I always make my clients vision come to life and always get referred from past clients I pay attention to detail and live by the saying there are no spare clients so take care of the ones you do have and they will take care of you.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
My favorite app is instagram which gives me inspiration when seeing other chefs who have already made it big out there in our industry it makes me work harder and I tend to look up to them because one day they’ll be looking at my videos for inspiration. I also love to watch food network
