Rising Stars: Meet Christian Padilla of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian Padilla.

Hi Christian, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is **Christian Padilla Rosario**, owner of **GzStudios8**.

I moved from Puerto Rico in 2014 without knowing English, but with a strong desire to grow, progress, and build a better life. Like many people who arrive in a new city, I started from zero — learning along the way, adapting to a different culture, and looking for opportunities with a lot of effort and determination.

After several years living in Houston, I worked for five years at a phone store. During that time, photography started as a hobby. I began taking photos with my phone, mostly of places, objects, and things that caught my attention. I never imagined that something so simple would become such an important part of my life.

Over time, people started reacting positively to my photos. That support sparked something in me. In 2018, a few friends asked me to take their engagement photos. I remember being nervous because I was afraid they would not like them, but when I saw how happy they were with the results, something changed in me. Seeing them share my work with their friends and loved ones made me understand the power an image can have when it captures a real moment.

From that day on, photographing people became a true passion. I fell in love with the instant feedback, with seeing people’s reactions, and with knowing that something I created with my camera could make them feel happy, confident, and excited. That was when I understood that photography was not just about taking a good picture; it was about helping people see and remember themselves in a special way.

By 2020, I bought my first professional camera and started taking the business more seriously. I began to see opportunities to generate income in my free time through photography. That same year, during the pandemic, I also started experimenting with video to help some friends with their music careers, creating music videos for them. Even though I was not making money from it at first, I learned a lot, gained new experiences, and had the opportunity to travel several times.

As time passed, with more experience and after starting to make some money, I felt the need to take a bigger risk. I wanted to go after the dream I had once imagined: to live from my art. For a long time, I did not feel capable of doing it, but in 2023, I made one of the most difficult and important decisions of my life: I quit my job and dedicated myself full-time to photography and video.

Today, I have been working independently in this field for almost three years. I still feel that I have a lot to learn and a lot of room to grow, but today I can proudly say that I work doing what I love. Throughout this process, I have met incredible people, worked on amazing projects, and earned the trust of clients who have opened doors for me to continue positioning myself little by little in this industry.

I have so much to thank this wonderful city of Houston for, as well as the many people who have been part of my journey. But above all, I thank God for giving me the strength to keep going, for opening doors, and for allowing me to help so many people, artists, and businesses bring their ideas to life.

I know you have not seen the best of me yet, but I am on my way. I am grateful, focused, and ready for everything that is coming next.

Thank you so much for the opportunity, **Voyage Houston**.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of my biggest struggles was growing up with very little financial education. Most of the people around me believed in working a stable job and retiring one day, but there was not much conversation about entrepreneurship, building a business, or creating multiple sources of income.

When I started pursuing photography and video, I knew the artistic side, but I had to learn the business side almost from zero. I had to figure out how to manage my career, price my work, stay organized, and understand the value of what I was creating.

That process was challenging, but it helped me grow beyond the camera. It taught me that talent is important, but discipline, structure, and vision are what help you build something that lasts.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a professional photographer and videographer. I love working on any creative project, but most of my work is focused on marketing for businesses, artists, and local entrepreneurs.

I am known for the use of color in my work, the way I structure my videos to tell a story, and how I try to create more than just beautiful visuals. For me, it is important that every video has a purpose, a rhythm, and an emotional connection.

I like to combine lighting, sound, and storytelling to create an experience that people can remember and connect with. My goal is not only to make something look good, but to make people feel something through my work.

I am also proud to be the first person in my family to take the step of trying to live from art and do what I am passionate about. A big part of that is being an example for my son, so he can grow up knowing that it is possible to follow what you love while still building a dignified and respectful life.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
There are many people I have to thank — people who have been, and still are, a very important part of my journey and a source of motivation for me since the beginning.

I am especially grateful to everyone who believed in me during my early stages and allowed me to experiment and grow, even when I did not have much experience yet. Their trust gave me the opportunity to learn, make mistakes, improve, and discover the kind of artist and professional I wanted to become.

Today, I am also blessed to have a mentor and someone I truly look up to: my good friend Leo Lopez from Wolfpack Visual Media. Beyond being a great friend, he has taught me many of the things I know today and has been an important example in my growth.

I also want to thank Liz, J Moreno, Daniela, Leslie, Luis, Jesus Santiago, Juan De Leon, Eva, Jordan, Rey, Johnatan, Lele, and many other people who love me, support me, and have been part of this journey in different ways.
