Rising Stars: Meet Courtney Wilson of Houston, TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Wilson.

Hi Courtney , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
If you had asked me years ago what my dream job was, I would have said “wedding planner” without hesitation. But after serving in AmeriCorps NCCC, life took me down a different path. I became a teacher and spent the next 14 years in the classroom—a career that I genuinely loved and one that taught me so much about organization, communication, leadership, and caring for others.

The dream of planning weddings never completely disappeared, though.

When it came time to plan my own wedding, I had the privilege of working with an incredible wedding planner. Watching her create such a meaningful, seamless experience for us reminded me of the dream I had set aside years before. I realized that this was exactly what I wanted to do—to help couples feel supported, cared for, and able to truly enjoy one of the biggest days of their lives.

So, I took a leap of faith and started Moonstruck Events.

Looking back, it doesn’t feel like I left teaching behind—it feels like I brought the best parts of it with me. At its heart, both careers are about serving people, solving problems, staying calm under pressure, and helping others experience moments they’ll never forget. Today, I get to combine my love of organization, creativity, and relationships to create weddings that are not only beautiful but deeply personal. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m so grateful I had the courage to finally pursue the dream that had been waiting for me all along.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I wouldn’t change it. Starting a business from scratch, during Covid nonetheless, while leaving behind the stability of a 14-year teaching career was both exciting and terrifying. There were plenty of moments filled with self-doubt, long hours, and wondering if I had made the right decision.

Like many entrepreneurs, I quickly realized that being passionate about your craft is only one piece of the puzzle. Learning how to run a business—from marketing and finances to building systems and leading a team—was an entirely new challenge. There have been setbacks, mistakes, and seasons that stretched me in ways I never expected.

But every challenge has helped shape both me and Moonstruck Events into what we are today. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that growth comes from being willing to adapt, ask for help, and keep showing up even when things feel uncertain. I’ve also learned that there’s no perfect roadmap for building a business—we’re continually adjusting, learning, and adapting as we go, and I think that willingness to evolve is such an important part of growth. Looking back, those difficult moments weren’t roadblocks—they were stepping stones that helped build a stronger business.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At Moonstruck Events, we specialize in full-service wedding planning, design, and coordination, creating celebrations that feel beautiful, intentional, and uniquely reflective of each couple. While we certainly love the pretty details, we’re even more passionate about creating an experience where our couples feel supported, cared for, and genuinely excited throughout the planning process.

I think what sets us apart is that we don’t believe weddings should fit into a one-size-fits-all formula. Every couple has a different story, different priorities, and a different vision, so our approach is highly personalized. We spend a lot of time getting to know our couples so we can create a wedding that feels authentically them, not just what’s trending.

I’m also incredibly proud of the relationships we’ve built—not only with our couples but with the amazing vendor friends we work alongside. Some of the greatest compliments we receive come from both clients and fellow vendors, and that’s something we never take for granted. We believe that when everyone feels valued and supported, it creates a better experience for everyone involved.

More than anything, I’m proud of the company we’ve built. What started as a dream has grown into a business centered around kindness, creativity, and genuine connection. At the end of the day, our goal isn’t simply to plan beautiful weddings—it’s to create an experience that allows our couples to be fully present, make lasting memories, and truly enjoy one of the most meaningful days of their lives.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
If there’s one thing I’d want readers to take away from my story, it’s that it’s never too late to pursue the dream that’s been sitting in the back of your mind. I spent 14 years in a career I truly loved before finding the courage to take a leap into something I’d dreamed about for years. I’ve learned that the road to your dreams isn’t always a straight line. Sometimes the detours become the very experiences that make you ready for the life you’re meant to build.

I’m incredibly grateful that I get to do work I genuinely love, serve amazing couples, and be part of one of the most meaningful days in their lives. Building Moonstruck Events has been one of the greatest joys of my life, and I hope it encourages others to trust themselves, embrace change, and never stop chasing the things that light them up.
