Rising Stars: Meet Coy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Coy. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Coy is a progressive rock band formed in 2017 from Houston, Texas. This group started out as three eager musicians with the common goal to write catchy prog-rock. Original members Aaron Nichols (Drums), Brandon Martinez (Guitar), and Kamron Conover (Bass) went on to release their first single “Beachy” on June 1st, 2018 and their second “Wish Wash” on August 17th, 2018.

They drew heavy inspiration from bands within the genre at the time, Chon being the most familiar between the three. These two songs showcased the trio’s love for technicality and groove. With the release of these singles, they set their sights on a full length album as well as the addition of some new members. Rhythm guitarist Charlie Bubenik was added in 2019, followed by vocalist Javier Neveu in late 2021.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. We started this band all as full time college students with part time jobs so it was difficult to coordinate schedules, gigs and even have sufficient funding for our endeavors. On top of that, we are a group that does not like to compromise our standards so finding the right team for photography, music videos and tracking our music has taken a little while.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Both Brandon Martinez and Charlie Bubenik are music teachers. They both help children enrich their lives with joy of music and help other musicians become more well rounded.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Perseverance. In this business, it’s very rare for an artist to take off on their very first release, so don’t get discouraged when things don’t go how you planned. Continue to make undeniably good art and be consistent and eventually you’ll see the fruits of your labor.
