Today we’d like to introduce you to David Truong.
Hi David, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
A few years ago, my wife and I planned our wedding. I knew nothing about photography so my mom hired a photographer that she knew to photograph our wedding. The experience was not great. It turned out to be out of our expectation when we received our sneak peaks. They were no where close to be professional quality. Then we found out we would not get our wedding images at all because the photographer disappeared. Basically, we got scammed.
I was angry and frustrated so was my wife and our family. It went on for months. Then on my birthday, my wife bought me a very basic lens just because she knew I loved to take pictures every time we went on trips. Then I started to get into photography more and more. I took my wife out and started taking pictures of her, then her friends.
Soon enough, I found out I had a passion for photography especially in wedding photography. I decided to pursue this career after that. I went on professional trainings, workshops and established Always Us Studios in 2019. Also, I knew how it felt when I did not get my wedding photos done right, So I dedicated to capture more and more couples the way they deserve. I would not let a couple who works with me go through the same thing as I did.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has been great. I have learned a lot along the way to improve my skills and my business. Everyday is a new challenge. But I am ready for it and I am pushing through obstacles to get to where I am right now and i will not stop. A struggle in this business is to attract new couples and find the right couple who is aligned with my values. But I believe time and my dedications will eventually be paid off. My goal is to have a sustainable and thriving business so that I can serve more and more couples who value the authenticity of their wedding memories.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My photography approach is a combination of Fine Art and Authentic elements. I want to make sure our couples will get the most beautiful images for their wedding day also, they can relive their day every time they see the images again. More than that, we preserve their legacy by creating beautiful artworks, wedding albums, and tangible memories for them to share with their loved ones.
I am proud of what I have accomplished so far. Always Us Studios got featured in Weddings in Houston Magazine, Brides of Houston in just a short time. Also, I have created a sustainable business with a vision and big goals for us to achieve. My wildest dream is to travel the world to photograph amazing couples at the most awesome places.
My first international business trip is to Greece to photograph a wedding retreat in November 2022. It is a dream come true and I am very excited about it.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice is to keep grinding, putting in the works. Go ahead and make mistakes, and grow from them. Also, finding your true inner voice – Why you want to do this? And be very crystal clear about it. Because if you find out the true answer, it’d take you far.
I wish I knew the overall picture of what it takes to be a successful photographer earlier. But I guess it helped because I did not know so I just did it anyways.
