Devin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Dekree Studio began with a simple truth: creative work doesn’t belong in a box.
After years working in the corporate world for high-end resorts, real estate firms in California, and Fortune 500 companies, I found myself being pulled into freelance projects—branding restaurants, designing menus, and painting murals—all outside of my 9–5. When multiple bosses started asking me to do work on the side, I knew I was onto something. I understood the hustle, the expectations, and what it would take to build something of my own.
At 26, I launched Dekree Studio as a one-woman branding agency in Pittsburgh, PA. It started small but with big ambition. Within a few years, we had earned a name for ourselves in the Washington DC and DMV area, becoming the go-to agency for restaurants and hospitality brands looking to stand out through bold, thoughtful design.
Two and a half years in, I brought on our first employee—and from there, the momentum only grew. Today, Dekree Studio is a powerhouse creative agency based in both Houston and NYC with a tight-knit team of 10. We’ve worked with some of the world’s most recognized names, including Toyota, Hublot Watches, and even the GRAMMYs.
We specialize in branding, web design, social media management, email marketing, and everything in between. But at our core, we’re here to help businesses tell better stories—and look damn good while doing it.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The Growing Pains
Building Dekree Studio wasn’t without its challenges. In the beginning, the hardest part wasn’t landing clients—it was building the right team. I had a clear vision of what Dekree stood for: high-quality, deadline-driven work that never cut corners. But finding people who matched those standards wasn’t easy.
There were times I’d stay up late reworking designs, redoing decks, or jumping in last-minute—because if something didn’t meet my expectations, I couldn’t let it go out the door. Some weeks, I was working 16-hour days just to hold everything together.
But I didn’t mind the long hours—I had a clear goal: I wanted Dekree Studio to be known for delivering exceptional work, always on time, and always with intention. Those early sacrifices helped shape the culture we have today: one built on accountability, excellence, and pride in everything we do.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that growth doesn’t happen without discomfort.
When you’re building something you care deeply about, it’s easy to want control over every detail—but learning to let go, trust your team, and lead instead of doing everything yourself is what truly allows your business to scale.
I also learned that high standards are only powerful when paired with clear communication and empathy. It’s not just about getting the work done—it’s about building a culture where people feel inspired to meet those standards with pride, not pressure.
