Today we’d like to introduce you to Devin Steward.
Hi Devin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My upbringing began in one of the smaller towns in Southwest Louisiana. I first moved to Houston, TX in November of 2020, and I began taking modeling and acting classes with an Academy called John Casablanca’s which began in December and ended in July of 2021. The courses educate all students on monologue techniques, commercial techniques, code reading techniques, fashion show fundamentals, improv techniques, and many more. My initial interest was in fashion and fitness modeling. I have always been into developing my own fashion style/look and health and fitness for as long as I can remember. As a kid growing up, I knew that I always wanted to do something inspiring with fitness and I also wanted to be able to present that lifestyle in front of many people. I wasn’t always quite sure of how I wanted to present that, but I knew that there had to be a method 2 of doing so. So, once I began taking the courses with John Casablanca, I began developing a like for the acting side of the entertainment business. Along with the courses, I began studying and focusing more on acting techniques and the more I dedicated myself to learning the insights of that profession, I began to naturally take an authentic liking to that craft. My very first experience being on an actual movie set came as an “extra” in October of 2021. I wanted to get a taste for things and see for myself how it feels to be around the movie set producers, directors, cinematographers, makeup artists, actors/actresses, etc. Once that was completed, I honestly gained so much profound respect, admiration, and gratitude towards everything that the entire crew of professionals endured. That really motivated and inspired me to heavily pursue acting, more so to become a role model and inspiration to others as well. Not too long after that experience, one of the representatives from John Casablanca’s reached out to me and suggested that I audition for the “Model & Talent Exposition” which is presented by Mike Beaty, located in Dallas, Texas. This event featured up to a little more than 300 selected individuals which is basically a platform that gives all up and coming aspiring actors, models, dancers, singers, etc. to joyfully express their talents in front of a massive group of talent agencies from all over. Once my audition was completed, one of the representatives notified me that I’d become chosen to attend this event which took place from the dates of November 17th – November 21st. The exposition featured various competitions for all of the attending talent to participate in. I entered a few competitions and placed FIRST in the “Swimwear Competition”. Winning that competition gave me more motivation to continue striving to be better and conquering my goals through my hard work and faith. The overall feeling from that experience is everlasting and a memory that I’ll always carry near and dear to my heart. That experience developed my confidence, educated me with a ton of necessary knowledge needed to succeed within this world of acting, and it allowed me to truly meet and network with a ton of other aspiring individuals as well as creating and keeping contact with professionals within the industry that have become mentors ever since. That’s the overall story behind my career in acting.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has gotten smoother over time, but certainly not a “smooth” road. One thing that I’ve learned in this field is that you have to truly be comfortable in your own skin which will then allow you to be your true authentic self. Accepting criticism, whether it’s good or bad may hurt you internally, but is meant to assist you in your growth. I’ve learned to show gratitude for every bit of criticism. I’ve had plenty of moments where I’ve felt like I did a horrible job and have had amazing people tell me that there is a substantial amount of potential in me and to continue moving forward. I believe that the “struggles” are some of the greatest key moments in our journeys. These struggles truly build character and provide us with a broader perspective of life. We have to be able to accept failure in order to progressively grow. Without failure, there isn’t much success.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a fitness enthusiast who loves to display my focus and dedication as much as possible while conducting my workouts. Also, I am an American actor. In the upcoming feature film “Problematic Intentions”, produced by Vernon Wiggins from his production company based out of Louisiana, “MG Films & Television”, I am portraying the character of “Joseph”. Joseph is a well-known investigative journalist who seeks to find answers to the town’s killing spree. Problematic Intentions is a murder mystery/horror film and is guaranteed to bring joy and much suspense to our audiences all over.
There is a sincere passion that I carry for acting and fitness. My purpose in acting and fitness is being able to display many characters along with a healthy and fit lifestyle that can convey messages that will inspire people. I would love to be able to uplift as many people as humanly possible by spreading the message of positivity and creating a positive impact on their lives. I want to become an inspiration and role model to many individuals looking for a healthier lifestyle adjustment leading to life-changing ideas in their lives.
I believe my overall determination, my faith, and my impeccable amount of focus that keeps me consistent and optimistic in all of my endeavors is undeniably what sets me apart from others. Being able to inspire others to create and establish a healthy lifestyle while pursuing their dreams and committing to their goals is where my satisfaction stems from.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I believe my parents deserve a massive amount of credit for the example they’ve led by throughout my entire life. Anything that I’ve been fortunate enough to witness them start, I’ve also witnessed them finish. My two sister’s and myself have always inherited the importance of having faith, conducting our absolute best, and finishing anything in life that we start from our wonderful parents.
