Today we’d like to introduce you to Dg
Hi DG, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Photography has been an integral part of my life, and it’s impossible to imagine my story without it. Some of my earliest memories are of the photos my dad would take during family holidays, capturing moments that feel intertwined with my personal journey. Those images are part of the narrative that shaped me.
I grew up in Alief before moving to Aldine when I was around 4 or 5 years old. When times got tough, my family sought a more affordable place, and that’s where I spent most of my childhood. Like any kid, I did the usual things, but when I picked up an old camera around the age of 10, something clicked. I became fascinated with how such a small device could capture so much life and imagery. That was the spark that ignited my passion for photography.
Around the same time, music entered the picture. In the early 2010s, my brother introduced me to dubstep and EDM. Artists like Skrillex, Deadmau5, and David Guetta became the soundtrack to my life. But it wasn’t just the beats that caught my attention—it was the visuals that came with them. The music videos, album covers, and creative direction behind the scenes made me realize the power of photography and videography in music.
As I started using my family’s camera to take pictures of landscapes, people, and everyday moments, my passion for visual storytelling grew. It wasn’t long before my brother started pursuing music in 2017, and we formed a creative group called DGB2001. The name “DG” stands for “digital,” and although the group eventually disbanded, that experience was pivotal in shaping my path. It was a turning point where my interest in photography deepened, and I began exploring my artistic identity.
At first, I took photos for my brother’s music projects, shooting cover art and promotional material. But things took a major turn when his music gained small overseas recognition. That’s when I knew it was time to take my photography seriously. Balancing school and my growing passion for photography, I began creating even more after class. This dedication helped me build a small social media following, further fueling my drive.
Throughout my early middle school years, my brother introduced me to other creatives like Rayscorruptedmind, Metro Blu, and Wiggy—artists who showed me how to push the boundaries of visual art. They opened my eyes to new possibilities, and I began to see photography not just as a hobby, but as a way to express myself and share stories.
Now, at 21, I’m two years out of school and more motivated than ever. I’ve accomplished things that many people my age are just beginning to explore. My journey in photography and art is just beginning, and I owe a lot of it to the support of my brother, who helped shape my career path. Shoutout to him for always pushing me forward.
This is just the beginning—*IFRIT* and *Twelvsound 2025* are on the horizon, and I’m excited for what comes next.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Throughout my journey in photography and videography, finding creativity was often a struggle, especially during high school. Juggling school, a heavy workload, and constant anxiety made it difficult to stay motivated or find time to pursue my passion. The pressure would sometimes feel overwhelming, leading me to skip school and spiral into depression and suicidal thoughts. Thankfully, I was able to push through that dark period in my life.
Another challenge I faced was reconnecting with the passion that initially drove me to create. I often found myself struggling to find new ideas or develop a unique style in my work. The hardest part was sacrificing time—whether it was skipping out on parties, hanging out with friends, or missing out on relationships. But in the end, I chose to dedicate that time to honing my craft, allowing me to grow as a creator and live life through the lens of my artistic process.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I started experimenting with long exposures as I mastered my camera’s functions, and that’s when I discovered my signature style. I’ve built a reputation for pushing the boundaries of photography, constantly experimenting and using unconventional methods to bend the art form, inspiring others to get out there and create. I’ve also ventured into videography, learning to edit with old cameras and pushing myself to see how far I can take it. What sets me apart is my relentless drive and unwavering confidence to create, learn, and follow my own path. I’m proud to be recognized as one of the most watched and up-and-coming creatives in Houston. The journey I’ve taken to secure my place in that spotlight is something I stand by with immense pride.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my most cherished childhood memories is watching professional wrestling with my dad. It wasn’t just about the matches—it was about the stories that unfolded in the ring and the time we spent together. Those moments were more than just entertainment; they were a chance for us to bond, father and son. Through wrestling, I not only learned about the craft and the business behind it, but I also discovered a true passion for the excitement it brought. We even got to attend a few events together locally, creating memories I’ll hold onto forever. Those nights spent watching wrestling with my dad will always be some of the best times of my life.
