Rising Stars: Meet Dione Orozco of Houston Tx

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dione Orozco

Dione, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey in tattooing is one of passion, determination, and creativity. In 2016, I found myself at a crossroads, torn between two career paths—gastronomy or tattooing. At first, I chose the culinary world, but something inside me felt incomplete. It didn’t take long to realize that my true calling wasn’t in flavors but in skin, in ink, in the ability to create art that people would carry with them forever.

That’s how my tattooing journey began in my hometown, Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Back then, there weren’t many female tattoo artists in my city. Being one of the first wasn’t easy, but instead of seeing it as a challenge, I saw it as an opportunity—to pave the way and prove that art knows no gender.

From my early days as an apprentice at the local studio “Arte Salvaje,” I knew I had found my place. I dedicated myself to learning, refining my craft, and eventually, I decided to branch out on my own. With the support of my husband, we opened our own studio, “Diosas.” This project was more than just a business; it became a home for up-and-coming artists, a space where new talent could grow. Seeing so many of them now thriving as well-known tattooers in Reynosa is one of my greatest achievements.

With 10 years of experience in tattooing, my journey has now brought me to Houston, where I work at Houston Heights Tattoo—my new home. Here, I have the privilege of working alongside an amazing team and tattooing clients who trust me to bring their ideas to life. I specialize in colorful, neo-traditional pieces because they allow me to play with vibrant details and create designs full of energy and personality.

For me, tattooing is more than just a job—it’s an art form that transcends. Every client brings a story, an emotion, a memory, and my mission is to turn that into something unique, something they can wear with pride. Not a single day goes by without feeling grateful for doing what I love. Tattooing has given me freedom, a sense of community, and the ability to leave a mark—not just on the skin, but on the lives of those who trust me.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest obstacles was myself—starting a business and building a career at such a young age came with many challenges. I had to grow and mature alongside my business, my career , and my relationship, which gave me valuable experience. As a business owner, I learned to understand what clients were looking for and refined both my customer service skills and my tattoo techniques.

Being one of the first female tattoo artists in my home town was also a challenge. In the beginning, I wasn’t always taken seriously in the tattoo scene. It wasn’t until I became independent and started gaining more recognition that people truly saw my work for what it was. But that never discouraged me—instead, it gave me the drive to push forward, to create change, and to inspire others who, like me, were looking for a space in this industry.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My favorite part of my job is getting to meet people from all over the world. I love living and working in Houston because it’s a city filled with diverse cultures, traditions, and backgrounds. When my clients share their stories with me, I truly appreciate the variety of people I get to connect with every day. Listening to their visions for their tattoos is the most valuable part of my work.

Being able to travel and leave my mark on so many people makes this job feel like a dream. I specialize in highly detailed tattoos with vibrant colors. My favorite styles are fine line, blackwork, and neo-traditional, but if there’s one thing that truly defines my work, it’s the bold and vivid colors I bring to life in each piece.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is family, the connection with my clients, personal growth, and the freedom of expression that this career gives me. Tattooing has allowed me to meet incredible people, share meaningful moments, and be part of their personal stories. Every piece I create is not just art—it’s a reflection of their experiences, emotions, and identity.

I also value the opportunity to inspire others. Whether it’s other artists, clients, or people who dream of following their passion, I want to show that it’s possible to build a life doing what you love. This career has given me a voice, a purpose, and the ability to leave a mark—not just on the skin, but in the lives of those I meet.
