Rising Stars: Meet Emily Black of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Black.

Emily, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Whisked Away truly began on a random Tuesday.

In the summer of June 2025 I had decided to start making my own desserts from scratch because I had noticed how much I was spending at the grocery store on baked goods. What started as a small hobby quickly turned into a passion I experimented, learned and perfected over time.

I started giving out my trial and error baked goods to friends, family and coworkers — and the question started coming more frequently: “When will you be making this a business?”

On a whim, I placed an order for packaging and created an Instagram account. I had a menu and orders within 24 hours.

The name Whisked Away comes from the very beginning of this journey — just me, a mixing bowl, and a whisk, creating desserts from scratch and falling in love with the process.

Today, Whisked Away continues to grow little by little with every order, every customer. I’m excited for what’s ahead and hope to expand within the next year to make the experience even smoother for our sweet treat lovers.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Stay tuned 😉

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been ups and downs throughout this journey but each moment has taught me something valuable.

One of the biggest challenges Whisked Away has given me is learning to take risks and become more confident in myself. As someone who has always been naturally shy, putting myself and my creations out into the world has been one of the hardest parts of this journey.

Whisked Away began doing markets in February 2026. I remember my first one being during the freeze. I had over baked. I was stressing myself out. I wanted to leave and call the bakery quits. I thought I was going to have to throw everything away.

The next day, I woke up with a completely different mindset and told myself I am going to pursue what I love and I’m going to get my bakery out there. You can’t succeed when you’re in bed.

Whisked Away has taught me to become more patient, trust the process and believe in myself. Most importantly, it has taught me to become unapologetically me. Every step, every challenge, and risk has shaped this journey into what it is today — and I’m excited for what’s to come.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Whisked Away is a small-batch bakery specializing in homemade cookies and cinnamon rolls.

I focus on creating nostalgic desserts that feel comforting and familiar while bringing unique flavors and creativity to each item. My goal has always been to make desserts that people looks forward to sharing with their families, friends, and loved ones.

What I’m most proud of is the journey behind Whisked Away. Starting this bakery pushed me out of my comfort zone in so many ways.

What sets Whisked Away apart is the attention to detail and the intention behind every item. I’m constantly experimenting with flavors, improving recipes, and finding ways to create desserts that feel special while still being approachable.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I think the most important qualities to my success are perseverance and being genuine.

Entrepreneurship comes with a lot of challenges, so being able to stay consistent, learn from experiences and other small business owners, and continuing to stay positive moving forward has been important.

I also believe staying true to myself is a big part of what makes Whisked Away special. I want everything I create — from my recipes to the way I connect with people — to feel authentic and reflect the passion I have for what I do.
