Rising Stars: Meet Emily Cass

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Cass.

Hi Emily, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I have always loved being creative. It is therapeutic to my always-running mind, to stop and focus on painting or crafting, or decorating. So when I found myself with an excess of time during covid shutdowns I picked up my brushes and dove back into watercolor. I was just accumulating art when a friend suggested I turn my art into note cards.

A seed was planted and I ran with it. Covid was a time when everyone felt disconnected and anger and depression were on the rise. So I thought there was no better time to start something that could help people share, love and kindness, and art with each other. As people requested more products, my business grew!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Is anything ever smooth? It has been a learning curve after learning curve. I am not trained as an artist or a designer, I have no business experience either.

Therefore I just take each challenge as it comes, I try and stay humble and willing to learn. Some days things go great and others you just keep trying. I think any success I have had is all the sweeter because it’s been hard work.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am very inspired by the Southwest.

I grew up in El Paso, Texas and often miss the mountains and the cactus. Much of my artwork draws on the plants and colors of the southwest. I feel proud when people buy my artwork, it will never get old, it feels like such an honor.

What do you think about happiness?
Loving people and connecting with others definitely fills my cup. I love doing markets and meeting new people.

There are so many good and fun people in the world, you wouldn’t know if you just watch the news, but they are there! I feel happy getting to meet other makers and be a part of the community of makers. I couldn’t do any of this without my family who are my number one source of happiness!
