Rising Stars: Meet Hayde Ortega

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hayde Ortega.

Hi Hayde, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
A little back story of Amira Creates; I’m Hayde, a stay at home mom of two with a passion for woodworks. I run a Small business named after my daughter, Amira. Amira Creates, offers a variety of wooden home decor. After a few months of playing around with a Cricut machine making t-shirts and tumblers for my son, Axel. My sister Cindy, began encouraging and motivating me to start selling online. She helped me out starting the Instagram and Facebook page. January 2021, Amira Creates was launched via social media.

A few months later, I began crafting with wood. I found a new passion for woodworks and home decor. That’s when Amira Creates took a turn and redesign. Investing in a CNC machine with my husband, Eliud, who plays a huge role in the business from cutting up the design on the CNC to running the finances. Having the CNC has helped us take it to the next level in design allowing us to create more. In May, we began doing pop up markets. It wasn’t in till October however that I decided to open an Etsy Shop. Since starting Amira Creates, I’ve received nothing but amazing support from family, friends, and the community.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business during a pandemic is not an easy start, nonetheless, it’s something that all small business owners have learned to adapt and work in. When it comes to obstacles and challenges with Amira Creates on the business aspect majority of it has been smooth. However, June of 2021, I lost one of my sisters Karina, my biggest supporter, to Lupus. Working and running a business in the grieving process is no easy task. Then again a few months later our family was hit with the devastating news of our maternal grandfather’s passing. Trying to keep a positive mindset while losing two loved ones in the same year has been the toughest obstacle.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Amira creates, specialize in creating a variety of wood signs. The most popular being our hanging door signs. The majority of our signs are engraved or with 3D lettering. I like to come up with my own designs and ideas for my projects to differentiate from other similar vendors. In every order I receive I pour my heart out into creating it into something special for the customer who has trusted me into crating something for their home. The joyous feeling in seeing my work displayed in people’s homes makes me proud that I started my business. Hearing compliments at pop ups and having returning customers motivates me keep moving forward. I never imaged I would be shipping off to other states or even the UK; the excitement I get in knowing my work is being displayed all over the place makes doing this worth it.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I like best about our city is the diverse and supportive community that allows small businesses like mine to achieve their dreams.
