Today we’d like to introduce you to Imani Bell.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey with makeup dated back to probably when I was about 5 or 6 years old. I would always find myself getting caught in my mom’s foundations, lipglosses and etc. And I would also watch her put in her makeup when she gets ready to go out to an event. At the time it felt like curiosity but when I started to explore it more on my own, it felt more like a passion. I grew up as an artistic child so I was always creating projects, perfecting my handwriting, DIYs, drawings for family members, and even joined an art club.
When I got to middle school, that’s when I started to dive into makeup. I started by filling my eyebrows in every so often and putting on mascara. Then eventually eyeshadow and colored lipgloss/lipstick. I even started doing it on my close friends when we were hanging out. When I got to high school, I started doing more colors, and wore eyelashes and eyeliner. And I would say the year 2020 is when I started to actually take makeup more seriously. I started taking clients! I used my sister as a muse to promote my work and so forth. The year 2021 is when I started to dive into SFX makeup which really gained attention to my art. This year 2022 is when I first went viral for my Halloween look!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely had some potholes, speed bumps and rocky roads. Lol! What any entrepreneur will endure is a slow start when opening your business. Whether it be influencing or physical services. Sometimes you get clients consistently and other times it’s completely nothing. Especially during a time when it’s inflation, clients are trying to save as much as possible.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Well, I’m a Makeup Artist, Esthetician, and Special Effects Artist! I specialize in soft glams but I’m more known for my creative artistic ways with special effects! I make your childhood cartoons come to life or make your nightmares come true! I do different expressive face paint and scary gory special effects. Some examples that I’ve done would be Coraline, The Corpse bride, Freddy Krueger, Venom, MoMo, “Him”Powerpuff Girls, and much more! I also do cosplay as well. Such as Halibel and Ichigo from “Bleach”.
My expansive range in makeup is how I set myself apart from others. Also hand making every prosthetic in every look I ever did is the biggest flex and that’s what I’m most proud of.
