Rising Stars: Meet Irina Liebmann of Katy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Irina Liebmann

Hi Irina, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
When my family moved to Texas from Illinois, I was a stay at home mom and attended More Than Moms meetings at a local church. I was very impressed that many moms in that group were business owners including photographers. Since I liked taking pictures, I asked one of them if I could come to her house to see what equipment she used in order to work as a photographer. After showing me her home studio, she recommended that I joined some photography Facebook groups. Joining several of those group opened the door into the world of creativity. I became friends with numerous talented photographers around the world who inspired and challenged me to continue learning and experimenting as a photographer. I am so happy photography became a major part of my life.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My biggest challenge has been sharing my time between my family (this is the first year year that all three of my children are at school), keeping the house clean, studying business/marketing part of photography, as well as photographing my clients and editing their images. It is like living in two worlds (reality and creativity). Both worlds are beautiful and require my time.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a photographer and creative director. I specialize in creating framed canvas portraits for your home, professional and creative headshots, and commercial beauty and fashion work for magazines and brands. I am very honored to have my work published in numerous magazines including Vogue, Gallery of Refined Art, Malvie, Marika, Couture Kids, etc. According to 8th 35 Awards International Photography Award, I was awarded Top 35 Child Portrait Photographer Award (out of 30,815 participating photos).

Who else deserves credit in your story?
When I opened a Restoration Hardware catalogue and saw their designers’ headshots, I fell in love with black and white photography that can describe people’s inner world very vividly. This style heavily influenced my choice for monochrome portraits and headshots.
On a different note, I also love photographing children in the style of Old Masters paintings that narrate a story and often take place in a setting other than studio. Since I had only one picture of me with my grandmother and none with my favorite pets when I was a child, I am very eager to capture those moments for the children I photograph so they can have their personal wall art they can use to decorate their living space and pass to future generations.
A funny fact, several of my favorite photographers’ last names, just like mine, start with letter “L”. They are Peter Lindberg, Annie Leibovitz, and Alexi Lubomirski. I am greatly inspired by their creativity and skill level. I am also thankful to my family for their support and my clients who trust me to represent their image.
