Today we’d like to introduce you to Jae’ Spivey.
Jae’, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I began my journey in the cosmetology industry around 2005, coinciding with the rise of Bratz Dolls in popularity. It was during my playtime with these dolls that I became fascinated with the art of braiding and started practicing diligently. At that time, YouTube wasn’t as prevalent, so I relied on television shows, magazines, and my own observations to learn the techniques, focusing on hand placement and coordination. Through countless hours of practice, I developed the necessary muscle memory to master the repetitive patterns.
Initially, I regarded braiding as a hobby rather than a serious pursuit, as I didn’t witness significant financial success in the field. Consequently, I chose to attend school, obtain a degree, and pursue other aspects of life. However, after giving birth to my child and contemplating the trajectory I desired for my life, I realized that the medical field was not the right fit for me. Taking a break allowed me the opportunity to reconnect with my passions, leading me to enroll in the Franklin Barber Institute.
Having spent nearly two months at the institute, I can confidently say that I have found my true calling. Behind the styling chair, I feel a deep sense of comfort and security, and I thoroughly enjoy establishing connections with my clients. This transition into the cosmetology field was a deliberate choice, as it is the only profession I can envision myself pursuing for the rest of my life. The decision has brought me immense happiness and gratitude.
I am grateful for the opportunity to pursue my passion and embark on a fulfilling career in cosmetology. The skills I honed over the years, coupled with my ongoing education at the Franklin Barber Institute, have provided me with a strong foundation. I am committed to delivering professional and exceptional services to my clients, as I believe in creating a safe and enjoyable environment for them. With each passing day, I continue to grow and thrive in this field, eager to make a lasting impact through my craft.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Throughout my journey, I encountered several obstacles that required determination and resilience to overcome. The challenges I faced were diverse, ranging from the joys and responsibilities of becoming a mother to relocating to a different area and essentially starting my career from scratch. Building a solid clientele base has been a significant endeavor, requiring me to establish my presence in a new market and navigate the dynamics of a different neighborhood.
Additionally, as a working professional in the cosmetology field, ensuring appropriate childcare for my child while I am attending to my clients has been a crucial aspect to manage. Balancing the responsibilities of nurturing others and ensuring their well-being while simultaneously devoting myself to enhancing their appearance and confidence has demanded careful planning and coordination.
Despite these hurdles, I have remained steadfast in my dedication to my craft. I have persevered and acquired the skills necessary to provide exceptional service to my clients. Each challenge has served as an opportunity for personal and professional growth, enabling me to become more adaptable, resourceful, and empathetic in my approach.
I am proud to have overcome these obstacles and continuously strive for excellence in my work. My experiences have reinforced my commitment to my clients, ensuring that they consistently receive the highest level of care and attention. Moving forward, I am confident that I will continue to thrive in the cosmetology industry, leveraging my resilience and passion to create positive transformations for both my clients and myself.
