Today we’d like to introduce you to Jahzre’ Francis.
Hi Jahzre’, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My product-making journey actually started when I was a kid. My great aunt gave me a soap-making kit, and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. That simple gift sparked my curiosity. Fast forward to college, one of my friend’s moms used to make a lotion that I absolutely loved. When my friend and I started seeing each other less, I decided to try learning how to make it myself — and I completely fell in love with the process.
One day while sitting in class, I saw an advertisement for a Black Girl Magic entrepreneurship event. I decided to challenge myself and learn how to make different products to sell at the event. I did just that, and I enjoyed every moment of it — from creating to connecting with people.
Over the years, I kept making and selling products, but eventually I realized I wanted to share this joy with others. That’s when I started hosting workshops. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to teach body butter classes, candle making, kids’ soap-making workshops, and even lead networking events for companies. It’s been such a rewarding experience to not only create, but also help others tap into their creativity.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been not having a dedicated creative space. I dream of having a space of my own where I can host all types of events and workshops — a place that feels inspiring, welcoming, and fully equipped. Right now, I host most of my workshops in my apartment’s event spaces or I rent venues when I can. It works, but it’s not always ideal. Scheduling, transporting supplies, and setting up in unfamiliar spaces can be stressful. But even with those challenges, I’ve learned how to stay flexible and make the most of what I have — and that’s helped me grow a lot both personally and professionally.
On top of that, funding has been a struggle. I’ve been self-funding everything — from materials to venue rentals — which can get expensive, especially when trying to grow. Balancing all of this with a full-time nursing career also adds another layer of difficulty. Finding the time and energy after long workdays can be tough, but I’m passionate about what I do, so I make it work. These challenges have taught me how to be resourceful, stay organized, and keep showing up even when it’s not easy.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I create hands-on experiences where people can explore their creativity and make something they’re proud of. I specialize in hosting DIY body care and candle-making workshops — everything from body butters and scrubs to candles, soaps, and more. I also do themed events for kids, company team-building sessions, and pop-ups where people can shop or create on the spot.
What I’m most proud of is the way I’ve been able to build community through creativity. People don’t just come to make a product — they leave feeling inspired, relaxed, and connected. It’s really about the experience. I’ve had attendees say it was the most peaceful moment they had all week, or that it sparked a new interest or hobby for them. That means the world to me.
What sets me apart is the personal touch I bring to every event. I put a lot of love into every detail — from the setup to the scents and the energy in the room. I also understand what it’s like to juggle multiple roles, and I try to create a space where people can slow down, tap into their creative side, and just enjoy the moment.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Definitely YouTube and TikTok — those two have been game changers for me. YouTube was my absolute bestie when I was first learning how to make products. I spent hours watching tutorials, experimenting, and teaching myself different techniques. It gave me the confidence to try new things and really shaped the foundation of my skills.
TikTok has also been super helpful — not just for learning, but for inspiration, marketing ideas, and seeing how other small creators show up and connect with their audience. Both platforms have been like free classrooms and creative fuel all in one. I still go back to them all the time when I need new ideas, encouragement, or just a little push to keep going.
