Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine St. Julien.
Hi Jasmine, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I am originally from Lafayette. I started off in the restaurant industry while I was in college. Like some students, I was in school and was still unsure of what I wanted to do after graduation. I was offered a full-time restaurant management position once I graduated and I decided to accept it. Once I was in the position, I realized how much I disliked it. In my free time, I would explore other career options and real estate came up as one. I didn’t give it much thought until my aunt (who is also my godmother) decided to come to the restaurant I was working at for her birthday.
She asked me how I was liking my new job and told her how unhappy I was with the position. I told her about my interest in real estate because I knew she was a real estate agent. Therefore, we set up a time to meet about a week later at a coffee shop. We met at the coffee shop and she explained to me what she does as a realtor and how much it has changed her life. I knew I always wanted to work on my own schedule, and not work for someone else for the rest of my life. Not shortly after she helped me enroll in real estate school, pass my exam, and become a real estate agent with Keller Williams.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say the road has not been as smooth as I thought it would be. It took me a while to realize there were things I had to sacrifice in order to pass my real estate exam. I was working a full-time job, so I know I couldn’t go party on my off days or hang with friends as much while I was in real estate school. Passing the exam was harder than I thought so I did fail a few times, but I eventually passed.
Once I officially became a real estate agent, one struggle I had to face was knowing how to work for myself. No one was telling me what to do or when to come to work. My office provides training but we are never forced to come in to work. I could go weeks without going to my office and I still technically have my “job.”
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Texas realtor specializing in the Houston area. I help people buy, sell, and invest in real estate. I love helping first-time buyers, by walking them through the process step by step to ease the stress of buying a home so buyers won’t feel overwhelmed.
I also help people who want to sell their home sell it for top dollar by marketing it to hundreds of potential buyers.
What I am most proud of is that I am in the business of helping people with one of the biggest decisions of their lives.
Any big plans?
For now, my plans are to continue to help people with the biggest moves of their lives and build new relationships. I hope to get into other types of real estate including investing and flipping property.
I saw myself owning a business in the future but not sure what it would be yet.
