Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeannette Stagg.
Hi Jeannette, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It feels surreal to overview where I’m at as a hairstylist and business owner today and when I started the industry 10 years ago. My first mentor asked, “What is your goal?” To create a name for myself in the industry. That say I achieved that goal is an understatement for everything else that has come. 2016 is when I took a leap of faith to no longer work in a salon and start Katy Mobile Studio. The vision was to bring a spin-off on salon services into the luxury of your home. Since then it has grown into a team of talented artists and stylists who cater towards all individuals, bridal, commercial, and I opened the doors to my first brick and mortar salon in 2021.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
If you have had a smooth road you haven’t achieved all that’s possible yet. Business growth should look like a broken chart going up, down, and in every direction possible. The struggles are what make the greatest achievements worth it. Every failure or mishap has taught me what NOT to do. It’s an opportunity to step back and be proactive to avoid the same thing happening a second time. My biggest struggle was and still is, learning to balance work and life and delegating what can be passed to others. To maintain the passion you started with and carry it through to the end you must be able to learn to delegate that way you can focus on the tasks that only you can do.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m known for listening to the guest in my chair. People continue to share, “If you want exactly what you’re asking for and a stylist who listens, go see Jeannette!” This brings a smile to my face because the number one rule in this industry is to listen and gain respect and trust. Without these 2 factors, you will never build a relationship with the individual in your chair.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Thriving Stylist Podcast by Britt Seva. If you are in the hair or beauty industry this is a game-changer! She has shown me how to not only survive during a pandemic but grow my business to open doors to a salon while others had to close theirs. Education is a nonnegotiable key to success.
