Rising Stars: Meet Kaitlyn Foster

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlyn Foster.

Kaitlyn Foster

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a 2022 graduate from a small town called Splendora, TX. Growing up there, everyone knows everyone, and you have to have thick skin to survive. I didn’t. But I wouldn’t change it because it’s definitely shaped me into who I am becoming today and made me realize that I don’t need everyone’s approval. When I graduated, I was asked, “What do you want to do now?” The answer was very clear: I wanted to be a teacher. Teaching has always been a part of me, and as I grow each day, I feel optimistic about where life is taking me.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As I previously mentioned, my younger years were not kind to me, but I have grown in so many ways. I used to rush each day to try and grow up, but now I take each day one hour at a time and try to enjoy all the life I have left to live. Where I was once a pessimistic person, I now see optimism everywhere, and I’m so glad that part of me has changed. And for those that don’t think it’s going to get better, it’s not if you won’t let it.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m currently a STEM paraprofessional/teacher at Tavola Elementary. This opportunity honestly fell into my lap. After looking for work after 3 months postpartum, I felt really discouraged. I was driving, saw a sign for a job fair, and thought, “What’s the harm in trying?” Attending that fair was the best choice I ever made, and I’m so happy to be a part of this exceptional staff and truly amazing kids. Every class I have the honor of teaching teaches me something new.

Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I would say that I’m a pretty safe person, if I go somewhere new, I’m definitely ordering chicken tenders and fries. But that doesn’t stop me from pushing myself when I feel it’ll truly benefit me. When I feel I could learn something from a new experience, I will definitely give it a shot.
