Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathlyn Nguyen
Hi Kathlyn, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up surrounded by influential business figures, I’ve cultivated a strong tendency towards helping others. My dad significantly influenced me by explaining the importance of money management. From a young age, he conveyed the idea that money serves as a tool to accomplish any aspirations. Additionally, he instilled in me the belief that knowledge is power, encouraging me to ask questions in order to learn more. These guiding principles remain invaluable to me, applicable in both personal and professional contexts.
My involvement in our family business began at 18, driven by my desire to support my father’s dream of launching a restaurant while also seeking opportunities for personal growth. Despite encountering numerous challenges along the journey, I find fulfillment in the continuous challenges in the business industry. I embrace every opportunity with gratitude and maintain a mindset focused on finding solutions to overcome obstacles.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a seamless journey, but I recognize the privilege of having the opportunity to run and manage a business, a chance not everyone gets. Along the way, I’ve honed multitasking skills and developed a strong knack for time management. One of the most significant challenges arose when our team decided to launch two new locations simultaneously. Our original establishment, founded in 2018 in Houston, TX, expanded to include a location in Sugar Land, TX, three years later. Furthermore, toward the end of 2021, we embarked on the planning and build-out of a new store for our Richmond, TX location.
We’re not on the scale of a chain restaurant or a corporate enterprise. The primary support comes from myself and my siblings, so there was a tremendous amount of work to be handled. I believe surrounding yourself with the right people can significantly propel you towards achieving your goals.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As the operational manager at Pho Bo To Grill, my responsibility is to ensure the smooth operation of all business aspects and to facilitate efficient communication among our staff members and managers. I continue to find ways of improvement in order to increase business efficiency. One of my greatest sources of pride is being a dependable source of assistance for those who feel confident approaching me. I believe what distinguishes me from others is my capacity to empathize in various situations while upholding the professional standards of the business.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
One of my favorite and highly regarded books is “The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth” by John Maxwell. Additionally, I’ve found numerous valuable insights from podcasts and YouTube videos by Tony Robbins.
