Today we’d like to introduce you to Kati Hewitt.
Kati, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Kati Hewitt Photography was established in 2012 as a portrait and wedding photography business in Houston, TX. After building relationships with our wedding clients for many years, we’ve expanded our photography services to include maternity, newborn, and family photos. We’re excited to continue serving couples as they celebrate even more milestones in their lives. Our new family brand is called Families by Kati!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As a small business owner, I’ve always appreciated making my own schedule and having flexible work hours. After welcoming our baby girl in the fall of 2022, my eyes have been opened to the world of being a working mom! Having strong systems and workflows in place has been game-changing as I navigate the delicate balance of being a present mom and a successful entrepreneur. I’m thankful for this season of growth because it has allowed me to make positive changes in my business and constantly look for ways to achieve a healthier work-life balance.
Becoming a mom has completely transformed how I view family photography, and I now feel like I’m walking into photo sessions with a fresh perspective. I’m truly able to put myself in the shoes of young parents and can relate to the joyful chaos that is parenthood! I understand what it’s like to want beautiful family photos that also tell an honest story of your current season of life. Whether your little one is learning how to crawl or practicing their first words at your family session, I lean into the real-life moments unfolding in front of the camera. I’ve learned all too well that babies grow up faster than you could ever imagine, so I aim to capture all of the sweet giggles, silly antics, and everything in between!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
We’re passionate about capturing once-in-a-lifetime moments, so expanding into family photography was a perfect extension of our wedding brand. We’ve always been proud of the legacy we are documenting for our wedding couples, and we hope they will pass down their wedding photos from generation to generation. Now, we are able to provide that same service to couples as they grow their families! The biggest honor is when I am meeting a past wedding couple’s newborn baby for the first time, and they show me a photo wall in their home that displays all of the other sweet memories I have captured for them throughout the years!
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
One little-known fact is that I grew up in Katy and married my high school sweetheart…and now I’ve moved back to Katy with my husband and daughter! It feels surreal to revisit all of the places that were monumental to our childhood and high school years while creating new memories with our 1.5-year-old daughter!
