Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelby Nichols.
Hi Kelby, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was brought up around a lot of great craftsmen and entrepreneurs that I had the opportunity to shadow and lead my trades and determination to be something to be proud of. And ultimately around 6-7 years ago I got tired of not being to my fullest potential, so I quit running crews/jobs for some construction companies I was working for, and took the leap. And with the trades I learned alongside my stubbornness and determination to be something great, Diamond K Construction is still fully operational and doing well.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Bout as smooth as riding in the last seat of a school bus and hitting a speed bump at 10mph. It has its ups for sure but equally has had its lows. Slow times, no work, babies to feed and the light bills due, what do you do? You put your nose to the grindstone and get out there and hustle. Quitting isn’t an option, yeah you’ll look crazy, people will tell you “why don’t you just give it up and work for someone” but that ain’t an option. You keep going. There are brighter days ahead, withstand the storm and don’t miss the sunshine by given up during the rainstorm and getting under somebody elses umbrella.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I do residential construction and custom carpentry on the side by trade. My epoxy river tables are pretty cool as well as some of the bathroom renovations we have done, but what am I most proud of? My 4 year old little boy, proud of him and proud to be his daddy. Nothing I build nor construct will ever amount to him. That’s my greatest accomplishment.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Houses gotta be built. And we gonna build them.
