Today we’d like to introduce you to Key Jones.
Hi Key, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Unbeknownst to me, I have always been a “creative” individual. In my earlier years, my creativity manifested through music. I had been naturally gifted in playing instruments and showcased my talents through that for years. However, one day the joy I had playing my instruments and winning awards had disappeared. It felt like I wasn’t supposed to be going that hard for it anymore. A love now became a hobby, then a past enjoyment. This gave me the opportunity to participate in another interest of mine, dance! Personally, I had always loved the artistry of dance and secretly wished I could be like those dancers on stage. The main reason I never delved into it sooner was that my priorities were in music and the fear of starting something new. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen health reasons, my dance career was short-lived. Time passed, I graduated high school, prepared for college, and moved out of town. All the while, I felt unsure and unmotivated walking into college. That is how I found photography. My freshman year was when I got my first DSLR camera. It was more of a on a whim decision, with no idea of where the future would take me.
I grew more and more in love with my creative side but simultaneously very critical of my work. The biggest struggle I faced in the beginning, even sometimes presently, is comparing my own work with others. Photography didn’t come naturally to me as my previous creative outlets did, so that made me think I wasn’t cut out for it. Those long bouts of negative rumination left me to close myself off to my creative side in general. All I felt like I could do was imagine a world of possibilities but not execute. During 2020, thanks to the pandemic, I found my spark once more. I took the time to broaden my horizon and open myself to more than just photography. I began learning about graphic design, videography, and video editing! I just learned and learned as much as I could get my hands on. Not everything came easy to me like I had been spoiled of in my school days, but I pushed passed those thoughts and just enjoyed the process. Once I started upholding that mindset, my dreams began to take shape. I found goals I wanted to achieve, missions I wanted to accomplish, spaces I wanted to create for other creatives like myself. That is how Key Images Creative Studios became what it is today!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest struggle I faced in the beginning, even sometimes presently, is comparing my own work with others.It was a lack of self-esteem in my craft but also a need for perfection. I had always been used to being about average in my creative fields, especially music, so when I experienced the learning curve to real-life photography it knocked any self-confidence right out of me.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a creative that specializes in landscape and portrait photography, brand design, and social media strategies. My most lucrative service is my first love, photography. The thing I am most proud of is providing quality services for small businesses, influencers, and solopreneurs. My passion to make quality service available to all is what I feel sets my work apart from others. I don’t need the big name brand clients, I would love to help those that have no once of an idea where to start instead.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I am an extreme introvert.
