Rising Stars: Meet Kruti Gandhi of Houston (Pearland)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kruti Gandhi.

Hi Kruti, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?

I’ve always had a deep connection to dermatology. As a teenager, I struggled with acne and experienced firsthand how profoundly skin conditions can impact confidence and self-esteem. That personal journey sparked my passion for helping others feel comfortable, confident, and empowered in their own skin.

My career in dermatology began in Florida, where I spent over a decade refining my clinical skills and deepening my commitment to patient-centered care. Eventually, life brought me to Houston—a transition that coincided with some of the most challenging and painful moments of my life. Those experiences tested me in ways I never anticipated, but they also strengthened my sense of purpose.

Rather than letting adversity derail me, I stayed grounded in my work, my patients, and my role as a mother—determined to model resilience and strength for my son. Today, I’m proud to serve the Houston community as a certified dermatology physician assistant with over 13 years of experience, blending medical expertise with empathy, authenticity, and a genuine desire to help people glow from the inside out.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

It hasn’t been an easy path—but I’ve learned that our values are revealed most clearly in how we move through life’s hardest moments.

My passion for dermatology has always been deeply personal. As a teenager, I struggled with acne and experienced how profoundly skin conditions can affect confidence and self-worth. That experience shaped my desire to help others feel empowered in their own skin. I built my career in Florida, where I spent years honing my skills and developing strong relationships with patients.

When I later moved to Houston for my then-husband’s job, my life took an unexpected and painful turn. While I was pregnant, I discovered he was having an affair, and just two weeks after giving birth, he filed for divorce. It was the most difficult chapter of my life—emotionally, physically, and spiritually.

Yet, it also became the most defining. In the midst of heartbreak, I leaned into what grounded me: my purpose, my patients, and my values. I chose to show up—not just as a medical professional, but as a mother, a woman, and a leader—determined to model resilience and integrity for my son.

I found healing and strength through service. I stepped into leadership as Director-at-Large for the Texas Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants and became actively involved with the Junior League of Houston. Giving back to my community fills my cup, and it’s one of the ways I teach my son the importance of compassion, perseverance, and collective responsibility.

This journey has taught me that healing doesn’t always come from avoiding the storm. Sometimes, it comes from walking through it with purpose, grace, and the intention to uplift others along the way. As I look ahead, I’m focused on using my voice, my platform, and my experiences to lead with integrity, empower others, and continue making a meaningful impact—both in medicine and in the community.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

At the core of my work is a commitment to comprehensive, patient-centered dermatologic care. I specialize in medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology, with a clinical focus on acne, skin of color, psoriasis, eczema, and preventative skin cancer care. My journey into dermatology began from a deeply personal place—growing up, I struggled with persistent acne and understand firsthand how isolating and frustrating skin concerns can be. That experience shaped my empathy and ignited a lifelong passion for skin health and the confidence it brings.

Today, I have the privilege of caring for patients of all ages and skin types. Whether I’m performing procedures or creating personalized treatment plans, my goal is always the same: to deliver thoughtful, thorough, evidence-based care that meets patients where they are and empowers them to understand their skin—not just treat it.

Outside the clinic, I’m intentional about leading with purpose. I currently serve as Director-at-Large for the Texas Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants and am an active volunteer with the Junior League of Houston and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. I’m also part of a Bollywood dance troupe, which allows me to stay connected to culture, creativity, and community. Giving back keeps me grounded—especially as I navigate single motherhood. My young son is my daily reminder of my “why,” and I strive to raise him with the same values of resilience, service, and compassion that guide my work.

What truly sets me apart is how I approach patient relationships. I don’t just treat conditions—I treat people. I aim to create a space where patients feel safe, heard, and respected. I speak to them as I would my own family, with honesty, kindness, and care, and I take pride in explaining the “why” behind every recommendation so patients feel informed and empowered.

Dermatology, for me, is more than a profession—it’s a calling. I’m here not only to heal, but to help people feel seen, cared for, and confident in their own skin. That intention is at the heart of everything I do.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?

Dermatology is evolving incredibly fast, and I find that both exciting and energizing. Over the next five to ten years, technology will continue to play a much larger role in our field. Artificial intelligence and advanced digital imaging are already helping with earlier skin cancer detection, more objective acne grading, and personalized treatment planning—and that growth will only accelerate. That said, no amount of technology can replace the human connection. Trust, empathy, and the patient-provider relationship will always be at the heart of meaningful care.

I also see dermatology becoming more inclusive, which is long overdue. There’s a growing emphasis on education, research, and treatment options for skin of color, and patients are advocating for themselves more than ever. That dialogue is making us better clinicians and pushing the field in the right direction.

On the cosmetic side, the shift is toward natural, preventative, and longevity-focused care. Patients want to look like the best version of themselves—not drastically different. They’re informed, ingredient-savvy, and thoughtful about long-term skin health, and I love partnering with patients who are invested in that journey.

One area I’m especially passionate about is the connection between skin and mental health. We’re finally having open conversations about how skin conditions affect confidence, anxiety, and emotional well-being. I believe dermatology will continue moving toward a more holistic model of care—one that treats the whole person, not just the diagnosis. When patients feel truly seen and understood, it changes everything.

At the heart of my vision is purpose. I’m deeply committed to my patients, invested in my community, and endlessly motivated by the most important role I will ever have—being my son’s mother. Every challenge I’ve faced has strengthened my resolve to lead with integrity, compassion, and courage. I strive to model resilience in real life: showing up, giving back, and staying grounded in your values even when the road is hard. My work, my service, and my motherhood are all reflections of the same belief—that when you live with intention and heart, you don’t just heal skin, you leave a lasting impact.
