Today we’d like to introduce you to Krystle Wilson
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Well I started modeling pretty late in life (at least back in the day was considered late). I was in my late 20. I grew up in Detroit and there weren’t many opportunities to model. I just focused on basketball and track, I always knew in my heart my time would come. My aunts would take me shopping and once home I’d put on a fashion show for my mom to show her my new clothes. Later in life my family moved to Columbus, OH, where I started to get into modeling. I was signed to my first model agency and my first big job was with “The Limited Brand” as a E comm model! I was so excited. I think it was also my first paying gig! I started to get more jobs and more clients were reaching out to me. I finally decided to make a BIG move and head down to LA to explore and see what opportunities would come along. While in LA I represented myself and was basically freelance. I walked in a number of fashions shows and designers. I walked in LA fashion week a few years in a row while there! I worked a few Oscar events and red carpets. Around this time social media was becoming more popular so I was honestly getting a lot of my jobs from posting my pics and clients reaching out. I would post almost everyday and was getting very strategic about when I would post so I would get the most likes and views. At this point I was loving social media lol. I would post my outfits everyday or even twice a day and I noticed my page was getting a lot of traffic and followers daily. it was honestly motivation to dress up and communicate with people. I enjoyed comments the most because it gave me an opportunity to chat back and relate with other women. A few years later I moved to Houston TX (Where I currently reside). I signed with Neal Hamil Agency and they really opened some doors for me. While with NH I”ve been on the cover of the “Houston City Book” along with a spread, worked/walked for Neiman Marcus, and Dillards. Recently I’ve walked for some amazing designers such as Heir of Grace, Adam Lippes, Foreign Fare, and a number or other local designers. I recently became a mother and I’m grateful to still have this opportunity. The fashion industry has evolved so much. It’s honestly not so much about size and age so much like decades before. With becoming a mother and wife a lot of my audience was interested in family/motherhood content. I began to do more motherhood content anti totally took off. With a few post going viral. I absolutely love sharing this side of life as well, because becoming a mother and wife is something I’ve always dreamed of becoming. I enjoy being a relatable mom and helping other moms get through the day. When I was breastfeeding I had a lot of people reach out for tips and honestly just motivation. I try to answer anyone who comes into my comment or DMs. I know it can be hard becoming a mother, so I try to be available for the next mom and build a safe community for all.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been hard being in the model industry because I was working full time when I first started and it was so hard to get off work to take modeling gigs. I feel like I missed out a lot and missed a lot of opportunities. So right now it feels like I’m playing catch up.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a fashion runway model and content creator. My content is mainly relatable motherhood content. I’m most proud of gaining 1000s of followers and being a person that other mothers feel comfortable talking to. What sets me apart is that although I’m a full time mother I still find time for my other passions. I also take pride in replying to all my followers questions, I’m also proud of the brand deals/collabs that Ive had the opportunity to be apart. I recently had a brand deal with MYCHN Dental of Silverlake. This was fun because my oldest daughter was part of the collaboration and she loves to work with me!
Any big plans?
Right now I’m working on more brand deals as far as content creating. On the model side I’m updating my portfolio to stay current and fresh for clients. I’m looking forward to one day walking for a designer during NYFW! This has always been a goal and now I feel I have the time and support to move in that direction. As far as the near future I’ll be building my real estate clientele for the Houston market! So a lot in the works.
