Hi Kylah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
KM Party Decor recently celebrated two years in business, officially launching in February 2023. Our journey began when I took a leap of faith, moving my son and I from California to Texas with no job, only the certainty that this was where God had called us to be. For months, I struggled to make ends meet while working as a server at Olive Garden. I reached a point where I knew something had to change. Entrepreneurship has always been my passion, and I’ve started multiple businesses in the past. Determined to build something that would allow me to break free from living paycheck to paycheck, I started brainstorming business ideas. Party planning came to mind, but at the time, I didn’t have the financial resources to purchase the necessary supplies to get started. I reached out to someone who believed in my vision and was willing to invest in me so I could take that first step. With that support, I began teaching myself how to create balloon garlands and immersed myself in the world of event planning. In less than three months, I was able to leave my job at Olive Garden and pursue KM Party Decor full-time. What started as a bold risk has grown into a thriving business, built on faith, resilience, and a passion for creating unforgettable events.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges was navigating an entirely new industry with no prior experience. I had to teach myself the ins and outs of balloon design and event planning while balancing the responsibilities of being a single mother. There were countless late nights, mistakes, and moments of frustration as I learned through trial and error.
Building a client base in a new state where I had no family or friends made things even more difficult. I had to start completely from scratch, finding creative ways to market my services, establish trust, and prove the value of my work, especially as a newcomer in a competitive industry. There were times when bookings were slow, and I questioned whether the business would succeed, but I remained focused on my vision and kept pushing forward.
Time management was also a major struggle. Juggling client projects, administrative tasks, and personal responsibilities required a level of discipline I had to develop quickly. It wasn’t always easy, but every obstacle taught me something valuable and helped shape KM Party Decor into the business it is today.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At KM Party Decor, we bring celebrations to life with custom balloon designs and event styling. Whether it’s a birthday, baby shower, wedding, or corporate event, we create unforgettable setups that make every moment special. Our motto is “Making life pop one event at a time,” and that’s exactly what we strive to do, transforming spaces into beautiful, one-of-a-kind experiences.
We’re best known for our eye-catching balloon garlands, unique backdrops, and full event setups that match each client’s vision. What sets us apart is the love and detail we put into every event. We don’t just decorate, we create experiences. From the very first consultation to the final setup, we focus on bringing your ideas to life in a way that feels personal, seamless, and stress-free.
One of my proudest moments has been watching this business grow from an idea into something real. When I first started, I had no experience, no client base, and no guarantees, but I had passion, faith, and the drive to make it work. Now, KM Party Decor is not just my business, it’s my purpose. Seeing the joy on my clients’ faces and knowing I played a part in making their special moments even more memorable is the most rewarding feeling.
What truly makes us different is that we care. Every event matters to us, no matter how big or small. We’re here to bring the WOW factor, create lasting memories, and, most importantly, make life pop—one event at a time!
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I am incredibly grateful for the people who have supported me throughout this journey. My sister Alexis has been one of my biggest supporters, staying up late to help me prepare for events, assisting with setups, and always bringing fresh ideas to the table. She is also an amazing photographer with her own business, The Valentine Media Group, and has captured so many of my events beautifully, helping me showcase my work in the best way possible.
I also want to thank She’Pree, an incredibly talented interior designer in Atlanta and the owner of Brevildesignstudio, who created our new logo. Her creativity, expertise, and encouragement have been invaluable. Both she and my sister constantly motivate me, push me to think bigger, and remind me why I started this journey in the first place.
A huge thank you also goes to my cousin Jerrell, an amazing photographer and the owner of Trulove Studios. Jerrell has been instrumental in my business, creating most of the backdrop rentals we offer, providing our company headshots, and capturing our one-year anniversary photos. His success in his own business has been inspiring, and he has guided me in so many ways, from business taxes to building our website and sharing countless business tips and tricks that have helped me navigate entrepreneurship.
Beyond them, my clients have played a huge role in my success. Many have trusted me from the very beginning, referred me to others, and supported my business in ways I can’t even put into words. Their belief in my work and their excitement for what I create fuels my passion every day.
Lastly, I have to thank my son. He is my biggest motivation, my reason for pushing through the tough times, and the driving force behind everything I do. This journey hasn’t been easy, but with the love and support of these amazing people, KM Party Decor continues to grow and thrive.
