Rising Stars: Meet Lamar & Harrison Kincade of Katy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lamar & Harrison Kincade

Hi Lamar & Harrison, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi my name is Lamar and I started Shabach Apparel with my 12yr son Harrison. One day Harrison informed me that he didn’t want to play baseball anymore after playing nearly year-round since his t-ball days. I was crushed to say the least but didn’t want to force the issue. After asking him why, he told me that there’s more to life than sports. Then he asked me what it would take to be a team owner. How can I argue with that! I explained to him that most great athletes, scientist and entrepreneurs started at an early age so we needed to figure this out ASAP! We brainstormed, throwing ideas around and decided to start our own clothing brand. Harrison liked the idea and it’s a great teachable moment on how to manage money and run a small company. He has been hands on every step of the way from designing to sales and distribution of our product. We have shipped over 3000 orders since we started and our product is currently in 5 stores. Things have been so great that we had to hire a part-time employee to assist with the orders.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road and here’s why. I thought that we would only sale 10-20 shirts per month but after just 3 months in business we went from 10-15 orders a month to over 100 per month. Our foundation was not in place and we were swamp. During that time, we made a few mistakes by sending people the wrong order and forgetting to ship their order.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I currently work as an Sr. IT Project Manager for a Tech company. Harrison is a 7th student.

Any big plans?
My future plan is to open a store front or warehouse to manufacture/sell our brand. This is the ultimate goal. We would like to start a GoFundMe or some type of crowd funding to assist with this. I’m looking forward to this!!!
