Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Gregory.
Hi Lauren, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am the dance team director at Cy Woods HS along with being a mom to identical twin boys who are 4 and a daughter who is 2.
I started as the dance team director in 2013 and in my time The Cy woods crimson Cadettes dance team have brought home 9 national dance titles.
Each year I have a team of about 50 high school girls and we work all year long for many performances. We begin in the summer training and practicing then perform at ever varsity football game and pep rally in the fall. We then transition to our competition season which takes place over about 4 months (Dec-March). After we complete competition season we begin new choreography for our end of year spring show. I strive to grow young women not only as dancers but also as young ladies who will one day change the world. We work a lot of what it means to take ownership, be responsible and set goals. We are role models at school and in Cypress. We work to be active in our community providing spirit and also service.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s always a struggle each year with a new team and new obstacles. Each team is different and has their own strengths. Some years it take awhile to build those important relationships and some years it happens quickly. I am also a mom so my time management has to be efficient so I am present for my team and also my own family.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a high school dance team director. So I specialize in empowering girls who dance. I am known as someone who motivates and teaches life lessons that will help girls to be successful. I’m most proud of the titles my team has accomplished along with watching them grow from a quiet freshman to an outgoing senior ready to conquer their goals and dreams.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Being personable. I make sure I get to know everyone and their unique personalities. I work to make sure we understand the value of truly being present and in the moment so we can make gains. Not just showing up to practice and not building a relationship.
