Rising Stars: Meet Lm Shafer of Spring Branch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lm Shafer

Hi LM, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I founded Think Pink Inc. in 2003 after an internship where all I did was pour into the lives of teenage girls at a church in Katy, Texas. I saw the need for an organization that would be committed to girls and would offer free resources and opportunities for the girls to grow mentally and spiritually.

Flash forward to 2020, we found out that girls were struggling to afford period products. We began collecting items and packing them in small bags with a cute handwritten encouraging note.

In 2023, I decided to go back to school to pursue my doctorate at SMU and invest my energy into our local schools and girls. We quickly grew from 2 schools to 20 schools and now we partner with 35 local Spring Branch Schools, providing over five thousand sanitary kits each school year.

Think Pink Inc. is a volunteer organization, with no paid staff. Everyone helps out with assembly, delivery, and special events.

Our assembly opportunities have become a great way to serve others in our community and students needing community service hours have found this to be an easy service project.

At Think Pink Inc., we think pink because what we think about matters.

Pink stands for Purity, Integrity, Nobility and Kindness.

Our focus verse for all we do is Philippians 4:8.
“Finally, sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things”.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Balancing school and running a non-profit can be challenging. My husband and I chose for me to be unpaid while doing these two things. Our budget is slim but our hearts are full of joy because we love working with our community to meet the needs of the girls in our community.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an ordained Unitied Methodist Clergy person that has chosen to serve outside of the church while connecting the church to the needs of the world.

In my career, I have always worked with children and youth.

I have my bachelors in Christian Counseling, and my masters in Christian Education and I am pursuing my Doctorate in Ministry at SMU Perkins in Dallas.

I am proud that Think Pink Inc. is making such an impact in our community.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t believe in luck but I do think that there are divine appointments, things that are meant to happen at just the right time. If we are too busy hustling, we may miss them.
