Today we’d like to introduce you to Maira Argueta
Hi Maira, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I always knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur. My parents were always my inspiration. With all odds against them they always strived for what they wanted and never gave up. When I started my business I only provided microblading services. I decided to go back to school to get my cosmetology license shortly after. While in school I grew a passion for hair extensions and wigs. Giving women and men their confidence back. I always had a passion for helping others feel good. There’s no better feeling than the smile I see on my clients face, after I get done with a service. After I got my license, my partner who is also my best friend inspired me to start our own hair and beauty supply company. My logo was inspired by my daughter Delilah who is no longer with us. I named her after the Dahlia flower. I created the design myself.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My path as a business owner has been smooth with a few bumps. Starting my business with absolutely no extra funds was just the beginning. I somehow managed to slowly buy everything I needed and never gave up. Starting my business only providing microblading services, I learned very quickly that Building clientele was very difficult. I have always been very ambitious and quitting was never an option. Can’t deny, it crossed my mind. My first year was a huge challenge. I was investing more than I was making. It got very overwhelming. Somehow I managed to get past it. After a couple years I decided to go back to school to get my cosmetology license, so that I can expand my services. I would say that was one of the toughest obstacles yet, but also one of the best decisions I could’ve made. Juggling school, a business, and tending to my family was not easy. It was very overwhelming. A year later I managed to get my license. I’m just thankful for my kids and partner for always encouraging me. Even when I wanted to give up, they never let me. They where my biggest fans and still are.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in hair extensions and microblading services. As well as our own brand of Hair and Beauty cosmetics. My company Lavish Potions has recently launched our own hair extensions and wigs, which are all great quality and 100 percent human hair. We also launched a bubbly and great moisturizing lip gloss, that I am obsessed with, also our customers favorite. I am proud to announce that we have been trademarked and partnered with distributors like Amazon and TikTok which I am very excited and proud of. It was fun formulating our lipgloss to come up with the perfect blend for our customers. We have 4 different flavors which include strawberry, cherry, bubblegum and watermelon. We also plan on bringing a new approach to the Houston beauty culture by hosting networking events where other entrepreneurs can work together and cross promote services. Empowerment is are theme.
How do you define success?
Success in my eyes is the happiness I feel at the end of the day, knowing I have worked hard and I am still working everyday for everything I ever wanted. Going to sleep every night happy, knowing my family and I are safe and living a peaceful life. Seeing my kids smile, being able to provide for them and spend time with them. Just makes me so happy and grateful. That’s success and the best feeling. I met my partner 5 years ago. Before that I was a single mother Of 3 kids and I beat all odds. Knowing I live my life doing something I love, while being able to provide for my family is a wonderful feeling. Thats success in my eyes and I will continue to thrive.
