Today we’d like to introduce you to Marixa Okafor.
Hi Marixa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started in the real estate business as a leasing manager 15 years ago; from there, I worked my way up to property supervisor managing over 500 units. I decided to expand my real estate umbrella by completing real estate school in 2017. Although I had an undergraduate degree in Communications from the University of Houston Downtown, real estate was my passion and all I knew.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The challenges I face in the industry are ideal to what most real estate professionals who are passionate about their career struggle with which is finding the ability to separate or make time to take a moment away from the industry.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m not only a real estate professional; but, I am also a community activist who focuses on cultivating our historical minority communities. I started an organization called “The Butterfly Effect.” During the process of ensuring all clients are ready to close, I noticed some would meet all the requirements of approval but struggle to pay certain upfront costs associated with purchasing a home. This created an aguish but allowed me to birth a solution, inspiring the creation of The Butterfly Effect Program. The purpose of The Butterfly Effect Program is to assist single parents, single household individuals, or victims of domestic violence (case no older than one-year-old from the date of the application, each case evaluated for approval) in obtaining homeownership through a list of reasonable qualifying factors.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I typically use what works and what’s free. Social media outlets have been my go to for all my marketing needs. I have found that having traditional websites are not what’s bringing in consumers. The use of Facebook, Instagram and other social outlets have created an easy most effective way for people to share my business profile. Word of mouth and client referrals have also been a great tools used to grow my business. Providing exceptional customer service and ensuring that each family has a positive memorable experience is my focus.
