Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Taylor.
Hi Michael, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my clothing brand in high school. It started under the name Big Mike T clothing. I mainly gave shirts to girls I had crushes on. After high school, I gave up on the brand and went to college. After college returned back to my home and resumed my job as a screen printer. While working my birthday approached and I wanted to make a shirt to wear to represent my birthday and my love of fashion at the same time. That’s when I came up with “Fly Since Birth. The first shirt that was made didn’t match the shoes I wanted to wear. There was a small boutique next to the shop I worked in so I took the shirt next door and spoke to the owner about selling the shirt in his store. He allowed me to place the shirt in his store to sell and it sold the same day! After that, we made an agreement that I could see my brand in his store, he would provide me with shirts and I could print whatever I want on them and we would split the profits and that was the birth of my clothing brand. I got to where I am today with consistent hard work and dedication.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. There has been times where I wasn’t being constant and I struggled with feeling good enough. Often felt like the lack of support meant that my brand wasn’t well-received or liked. I struggled with being creative and low self-esteem.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a master screen-printer. I have a clothing brand and a screen printing company. my brand is a customizable brand meaning you can pick any color garment you want as well as change the color of the fonts to make it fit your personal style. That’s what makes us different and stand out when it comes to any other brand we are known for making each garment in your favorite colors which makes most of our garments one of ones.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
During Covid, I learned that you need to go harder for yourself, because you are all you can count on.
