Rising Stars: Meet Michelle Medina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Medina.

Hi Michelle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am very thankful for the interview. My name is Michelle, and I am 30 years old. I am a balloon decorator. I was born in Houston, and moved to Sugar Land in early 2000s. Right before A Pop Of Chelle, I was working in sales at a company that imprinted on promotional products. I was furloughed in the summer of 2020, which was a bit shocking, but we were in the middle of Covid. For my son’s birthday in October, I decided that I wanted to be a little extra(per usual), and I created my first balloon mosaic. The crafty side of me enjoyed this new venture, so from there I took a few virtual classes to further the craft. My first customer was on New Years Eve of 2020, and A Pop of Chelle was born!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think it’s going smoother than I expected. I’ve met so many great people in the industry, who have helped me along the way. The most challenging part is waiting for the right clients. You have to be patient, continue working, and building to attract the clients you would love to work with. I’ve had those moments where I wanted to throw in the towel, but I’ve worked so hard to get this far, why should I stop?

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in balloon mosaics, balloon garlands, jumbo balloons and more. I am most proud of my balloon mosaics; they take a lot of work, but I always enjoy the feedback afterwards.

I am always open to trying new designs. Also, looking forward to adding more backdrops, and possibly expanding the brand.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success to me is creating a life for my son, that I didn’t have. To allow him to have opportunities and moments that I didn’t get to experience.

I love to be around whenever he needs me. I didn’t have that same freedom while I was working a 9-5.
