Rising Stars: Meet Miles Presley of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miles Presley.

Hi Miles, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey in music started as a kid. My dad named me after legendary jazz musician Miles Davis. My dad’s massive CD collection included Jazz, Soul, and Funk; the essence of Hip-Hop. My introduction to Hip-Hop was through the legendary duo “Outkast”. In the year 2000, Outkast released their 4th album “Stankonia”. My mind was blown from the lyrics and instrumentation of each track. It taught me about the freedom of creative expression through music. From that point on music would be my safe space. I carried my love for music into elementary and middle school. I learned how to play the drums, trumpet, trombone, and piano. In 2004, Kanye West released first his album “College Dropout”, this taught me about sampling in Hip-Hop. The combination of soul samples and drum breaks memorized me to a point where I wanted to learn how to make beats. Fast forward I would go to college at Houston Community College and study audio engineering. Once I graduated in 2016, I’ve used these skills and experiences I gained to create instrumental albums (Hip-Hop, RnB, Lofi, House) under my artist name “93-Miles”, and freelance as an audio engineer for live events, studio work, and film shoots.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Its never easy as being an artist. Self doubt, learning how to profit off of your art, and the constant battles with social media and its algorithms weight heavily when creating. It took a while for me to understand how to express my art and tell my story. Getting lost in the rabbit hole of DIY videos from other artist and creatives will have you going in circles. However, understanding that everyones journey and situation is different got me out from that sunken place of an identity crisis. I always tell myself that God’s timing is undefeated and to trust my intentions every time I create. Remembering why I feel in love with music in first place brought me back from drowning in self doubt. I’m a firm believer in doing what you love is the key to happiness in this world, and I can’t see myself doing nothing but music.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in telling stories through sound and music. Whether its through music production, live events, or tracking audio for a film shoot, every creative has a story. When I’m not working on my own personal projects, I love helping other creatives and local businesses get their vision out. We all can learn and be inspired by one another. Having people tell me how much they appreciate the passion, effort, and creativity I showcase in my work lets me know I’m moving in the right direction with my purpose.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
