Rising Stars: Meet Myra Morado of Purple Studio Waxing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Myra Morado.

Myra, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Purple Studio Waxing has been in business for almost four years, and we’re excited to celebrate our fifth anniversary this September. My journey into the beauty industry actually started long before opening my own studio. I’m a licensed cosmetologist, and early in my career I did everything from hair and makeup to other beauty services. While I enjoyed helping people feel beautiful, nothing truly felt like my calling until I discovered body waxing.

I began working as a waxing specialist at a national waxing chain, and that’s where I realized I had found my niche. I loved not only the artistry and technique behind waxing but also the relationships I built with my clients. Helping women feel confident and comfortable in their own skin became something I was genuinely passionate about. That passion eventually gave me the confidence to open Purple Studio Waxing.

I started as a solo waxing specialist with one treatment room and a dream of creating a space where women could feel comfortable, confident, and truly cared for. Today, that dream has grown into a team of talented professionals, and watching the business grow has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

I’m a wife, a mom, and a proud Latina business owner. Growing up in South Texas, where our Hispanic community is often very traditional, I knew there were barriers surrounding intimate waxing. Many women were raised believing that only their husband or God should ever see private areas, which made conversations about body care uncomfortable or even taboo. I wanted to help break that stigma by creating a professional, respectful, and judgment-free environment where women could prioritize self-care without embarrassment or fear.

Over the years, we’ve built more than just a waxing studio we’ve built a community. The trust and support we’ve received from our clients have allowed us to expand from just one waxer to a full team, and we’re now moving into a larger studio to continue serving even more women. None of this would have been possible without the incredible support of The Rio Grand Valley community. I feel incredibly grateful to do what I love every day, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes us as we continue to grow.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Owning a business is never easy, and I don’t think any entrepreneur would say it’s been a smooth road. There have been long days, late nights, and plenty of challenges along the way. One of the biggest struggles has been finding the right people who truly fit the vision and culture of the business. I’ve also dealt with imposter syndrome at times, questioning whether I was capable of taking the next big step, while trying to balance being a business owner, a wife, and a mom.

The beauty industry can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also be very competitive. While I genuinely love collaborating with other businesses and supporting those around me, not everyone shares that same mindset. I’ve learned that no matter what industry you’re in, business is business, and there will always be obstacles.

The good thing is that every challenge has motivated me to work even harder. The more I’m told something can’t be done, the more determined I become to prove that it can. Those moments have pushed me to keep growing, learning, and believing in the vision I have for Purple Studio Waxing.

I’m also incredibly grateful for the support system I’ve been blessed with. My family and friends have believed in my dreams from the very beginning, and having that encouragement has meant everything. I’m equally thankful for my amazing team, who genuinely love what they do. Being able to mentor them, help them gain experience, and watch them build successful careers of their own has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey. Seeing all of us grow together reminds me that every challenge has been worth it.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a licensed cosmetologist with over nine years of experience specializing in full body waxing for women. While I have experience in several areas of the beauty industry, I found my true passion in body waxing. At Purple Studio Waxing, we’re best known for our Brazilian waxing services, which are one of our most requested treatments. Because it’s such a personal service, we’ve made it our mission to create a safe, welcoming, and judgment-free environment where women feel comfortable and cared for.

What I’m most proud of isn’t just how much the business has grown it’s how much I’ve grown along with it. Entrepreneurship has taught me that there’s always something new to learn. Whether it’s improving my waxing techniques, learning more about skin health, exploring marketing strategies, or becoming a better leader, I strive to continue growing every single day. One of the greatest blessings this business has given me is the opportunity to meet incredible people. Many of our clients have become friends, and the relationships we’ve built with our community mean more to me than I can put into words.

I believe what truly sets Purple Studio Waxing apart is that we prioritize quality over quantity. We don’t believe in rushing clients through appointments. We take the time to listen to their concerns, educate them on proper skin and aftercare, and customize each service to their needs. Every client deserves to feel heard, respected, and confident when they leave our studio, and that’s the standard my team and I strive to provide every single day.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that growth requires you to become comfortable with being uncomfortable. Every new stage of my business has asked something different of me whether it was hiring my first employee, learning to be a leader instead of just a service provider, expanding into a larger space, or trusting myself to make difficult decisions.

I’ve also learned that not everyone will understand or support your vision, and that’s okay. Early on, I worried too much about what others thought, but I’ve realized that if you stay true to your values, work hard, and genuinely care about the work you do, the right opportunities and the right people will find you.

Another lesson I’ve learned is that you don’t have to know everything to get started. I’ve made mistakes, learned from them, adapted, and continued moving forward. Every challenge has taught me something valuable, and I truly believe those experiences have made me a better business owner, leader, and person.
