Today we’d like to introduce you to Naomi Aganekwu.
Naomi, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Six years ago, I decided to strictly be a pescatarian, meaning I completely quit consuming any land animals such as red meat, pork, or poultry but still eating seafood occasionally. My focus was to learn how to incorporate more plant-based foods into my diet and I did just that.
This decision came after I watched animal agriculture documentaries in an environmental science class in high school in 2016 which caused me to lose my appetite for red meant, pork and poultry for good.
After watching the documentaries, I avoided meat for weeks and eventually decided I was okay to live without it completely. The information I was exposed to while watching these documentaries fired up a passion to explore new ways to nourish my body and teach others who are interested, how to do the same.
From then, I have dabbled in vegetarian and vegan cuisines, adopting a “flexitarian” lifestyle and continuing to explore my passion for health and wellness. For the past year, I realized that health and wellness is my true passion so I have started to take my content creation more seriously as I explore different avenues to share information and inspire people who have the desire to be more mindful of their well-being.
Over the past few years, I have worked with individuals in helping them overcome the challenges of transitioning to a more plant-based diet. I’ve been able to help people see that living healthier doesn’t have to be complicated and I’ve had opportunities to work with health and wellness brands whose values align with mine, with the goal of educating and inspiring people.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Growth is not linear. So there have definitely been times when I feel very clear on where I want to go and other times when I feel like I have no idea what I’m doing. Also, post-graduation life has shown me that doing what you love is most important in order to be happy and feel fulfilled.
Ultimately I have always known that health and wellness was my passion, but through the years the challenges have been really figuring out the avenue I want to take to fulfill that passion.
I have so many dreams and ideas I want to bring to life that sometimes it can be overwhelming. However, I am grateful for the unique ideas and passion I have and it’s about taking tangible short-term steps to bring my long-term goals to fruition.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I graduated from the University of Miami this past May with a Bachelor’s in Biomedical Engineering.
My passion is health and wellness, content creation, and ultimately living my best life. I’ve been fortunate to have worked with some organizations and brands that I’ve made content for to help people be inspired and informed.
A lot of people know me for being a wellness ‘junkie’ or connoisseur because of my wellness instagram and interest for all things personal development and healthy living.
I think what sets me apart is the fact that it’s a passion and not a fad. A lot of people are quick to hop of wellness trends but I’ve really been drinking matcha and going to pilates since I was in high school so people know me for being on top of my well-being and encouraging others to do the same. Although wellness is much more than that, I think it just speaks to the fact that I’ve been maintaining this way of living for as long as I can remember and it’s truly a passion of mine.
How do you think about happiness?
I feel most fulfilled when I am able to inspire and educate people. Some of the times I feel most aligned with my purpose is when people reach out to me telling me how they’ve made positive changes in their life due to some things they’ve either seen from my content or personal advice I’ve given.
I also feel most happy when I’m able to see personal growth in myself and have room to explore new creative outlets.
