Rising Stars: Meet Omar Fakhreddine of HOUSTON

Today we’d like to introduce you to Omar Fakhreddine

Hi Omar, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey into content creation began with a simple love for capturing moments. Growing up, I was always fascinated by how a single image or video could tell a story and evoke emotions. I started experimenting with my first camera, shooting everything from family events to nature scenes, and learning the craft through trial and error. During my undergraduate years, I joined my university’s monthly magazine as a photographer, which truly ignited my passion for content creation.

From there, I knew I wanted to turn this passion into something more serious. I landed a job at a successful marketing agency, where I was exposed to a whole new level of creativity. Working with some of the biggest names in the world—Mercedes, McLaren, Ferrari, Bentley, Maserati, and more—pushed me to develop myself further, striving to provide the highest quality videos and photos. Over time, I invested in better equipment, honed my editing skills, and expanded my range of work, exploring not just portrait and lifestyle photography, but also automotive and commercial content creation. The versatility of working across industries, from restaurants to global brands, really helped me push my creativity.

Now, after 10 years in the field, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with amazing clients, helping bring their visions to life. My goal remains the same: to tell a compelling story through my lens, whether it’s through still photography or video production. The industry has evolved so much, and I’m excited to continue evolving with it, always seeking new ways to create engaging content. Coming from a mechanical engineering background, it was difficult to find outlets for creativity—content creation became my escape

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Every creative journey comes with its own set of challenges, and mine was no different. One of the biggest struggles I faced early on was balancing my mechanical engineering background with my passion for content creation. It felt like two very different worlds, and finding time to focus on both was a real challenge. There were moments when I wasn’t sure if I could pursue content creation full-time, given how far removed it seemed from the technical aspects of engineering.

Another challenge I’ve come to recognize is that this industry is incredibly subjective. What one client loves, another might not connect with as much. Different people have different opinions on what makes content effective or visually appealing, which can be both a blessing and a challenge. Learning how to navigate feedback, stay true to my creative vision, and still meet the client’s expectations took time and patience. It’s an ongoing balancing act, but I’ve realized that every piece of constructive criticism helps me grow.

Additionally, establishing myself in such a competitive industry took time. I had to build my portfolio and get noticed by the right clients. I often found myself working long hours to deliver on tight deadlines while constantly learning new skills to stay ahead. Investing in high-quality equipment and software was another hurdle, especially when trying to manage the financial side of things as I was growing my career.

Transitioning into working with big brands wasn’t easy either—it took years of building trust and consistently delivering high-quality work. But every challenge, whether it was a creative block, financial stress, or imposter syndrome, pushed me to grow. Looking back, those obstacles were crucial to shaping me into the content creator I am today

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work revolves around creating visually compelling and engaging content for a variety of clients, from global brands to local businesses. I specialize in portrait, automotive, and lifestyle content, capturing the essence of a brand or individual through both photography and videography. Over the years, I’ve built a reputation for delivering high-quality work that tells a story, whether through a striking image or a dynamic video.

What sets me apart is the combination of my technical background as a PhD candidate in mechanical engineering and my creative eye. This unique mix gives me a different perspective on content creation. I approach each project not only with creativity but also with a meticulous attention to detail and a problem-solving mindset. My engineering background helps me tackle challenges methodically and deliver precise, well-crafted visuals that resonate with audiences.

I’m most proud of the diversity of projects I’ve been able to work on, from shooting high-performance cars like Ferraris and McLarens to creating content for restaurants and lifestyle brands. The ability to adapt and tailor my work to different industries has been a rewarding challenge. One of my proudest moments was seeing my work showcased on billboards on the street for everyone to see—it was a validation of the hard work I’ve put into refining my craft.

What really sets my work apart is my focus on storytelling. No matter the subject, I always aim to capture something deeper that evokes emotion and connects with the viewer. It’s about more than just beautiful images—it’s about creating an experience that resonates.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
One resource that has had a big impact on me is the podcast I co-created with my good friend Hussein Alajouz, called Enspire. The podcast brings together influential people from different backgrounds to share their stories, journeys, and insights. Hearing firsthand how they’ve overcome challenges, built their careers, and found success has been incredibly inspiring for me. This exposure to so many successful individuals continues to influence me today, both in my work and my personal growth.

In addition, I’ve always drawn a lot of inspiration from YouTube creators like Peter McKinnon and Sam Kolder. Peter McKinnon was one of the first people who really showed me the power of storytelling through videography and photography. His approach to creativity and his willingness to share his knowledge helped me push myself to grow as a content creator. Sam Kolder’s incredible cinematic style and adventurous spirit have also been huge sources of inspiration. Watching his work has taught me so much about visual storytelling and constantly striving to improve my craft.

Learning from these creators has been invaluable to my growth as a photographer and videographer. They’ve motivated me to experiment, to take risks, and to always keep honing my skills.
