Today we’d like to introduce you to ORION 224. They and their team shared their story with us below:
ORION 224 started in 2016 when my brother Gavin introduced me to his friend Victor Perez, who played bass. They were in middle school, and I was a freshman in high school, but nonetheless, we played music almost every day. As we grew older and after competing in a few school talent shows, we grew as musicians and people. I am 21 years old now, and they are 19, and we have been writing new music non-stop. In our history, we have always had a rotation of guitar players, but last year, we met our permanent lead guitarist, Sean Sticker. With the addition of Sean, the four of us have become very close, with our common goal always in sight, which is playing music for the rest of our lives for people to listen.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the struggles along the way has been finding a lead guitarist. Gavin (the drummer), Victor (Bassist), and I (lead vocals and rhythm guitar) have always had a very tight-knit musical bond but have never been able to cement a lead guitarist in the band. We had some stay longer than others, but we are very happy with our current lead guitarist, who not only meshes with us musically, but he meshes with all of our personalities. Other than this, we have all had our struggles outside of the band along the way, but we feel that these struggles help fuel the music that we write, and we are grateful for the outlet music gives us.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We are a band from Houston, Texas and we play Alternative/Indie Music. We have been playing shows since 2016 and have sustained a solid fan base in the local Houston scene based on our upbeat and exciting performances. We have been complimented before on our showmanship, as well as our ability to interact with the crowd. We feel our engagement sets us apart as well as the fun-loving spirit we always possess. We have an EP we released in 2020 titled “Something Beautiful” while we love this EP as it tracks a staple in our history, we are most proud of our evolution as songwriters, with a prime example being our 2022 single, “Everything Will Be Okay”. This track compared to our music before, shows an obvious maturing from the band, which we take much pride in. We have released two tracks since “Everything Will Be Okay,” one being “Strawberry Horchata,” and the other being “Violet Sunset.” Both have become favorites in the Houston Local scene and have gained traction outside of Houston as well. We love to perform these tracks, and other new, unreleased music, with unwavering energy and a love for having a fun experience with the individuals in the crowd.
What do you think about happiness?
What makes us happiest is the feeling we get while playing on stage. Nothing beats the moment of looking out into the crowd and seeing everyone have fun as a collective group with you and even singing along. This has always been a driving factor for all of our involvement in music. Concerts are a very important aspect of human life, and we love being able to help people have fun when they decide to come to one of our shows. Our crowd engagement has always been a huge priority for us as musicians, and we will always find most of our happiness when it comes to interacting with people this way.
