Rising Stars: Meet Reina Ryan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reina Ryan.

Hi Reina, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Reina Ryan and I was born and raised in Houston, Tx representing the MLK & South Park area. The street I grew up on was Enyart st & that’s where I got all my motivation to become who I am today. I later moved to Missouri City, Tx when I was in my teens and graduated from Thurgood Marshall High School where I ran track and became a State Qualifier.

Since the age of 9, track has always been a passion of mine until my sophomore year of college. As I entered my 2nd year of college track&field, I had to undergo ACL surgery. This was pretty devastating for me because I had an amazing freshman year. Instead of me feeling sorry for myself, I discovered another passion of mine that would keep myself busy by owning a business and creating revenue to feed myself while I was in Junior college & experiencing something I had never experienced before.

I started my first business, selling waist trainers @snatchedbyreina & used that money to take care of myself. I knew right then and there that if I’m not able to do one thing, there has got to be something else that I’m good at. I later would practice doing makeup and individual eyelashes in my spare time. 4 years later, I graduated college as student athlete while operating 4 businesses, selling waist trainers, doing lashes, renting out suite spaces & being a teeth whitening technician. You can follow my business page @playhauslash @theteethgenie via IG.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has most certainly, has not been a smooth road being a full time student athlete & trying to make a living for myself. Often times, my work life, student-athlete life & personal life would clash causing me to have a lot of meetings with my coach & family asking me what is really my main priority.
People will always say that I would be doing a lot while also trying to maintain my status in track & field but I always knew deep inside that one day I would have to learn how to balance all 3 , so why not start now? I just always believe in myself & the multi-talents that God has blessed me with. I believe in expanding & growing those things instead of wishing upon a star one day, looking back at what I could’ve done to become successful.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am known for running track & being a boss. I currently represent Puerto Rico as a professional athlete & I also rap for fun while working & operating my own businesses. I am most proud of my track accolades & the fact that I have 2 degrees at 23 years old & I did it while facing many challenges. What sets me apart from others is my faith in God, my confidence, my drive to succeed and the things that I have already accomplished at just 23.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Of course I do, I have so many people to thank starting with God he has done exceedingly and abundantly above my expectations. It has been nothing but his grace & mercy for how far I’ve come and I thank him in advance for the new doors that he is getting ready to open for me. My family, friends, coaches, and anybody that has ever helped me out & supported my business ventures. Everything helped contributed to who I am today big & small.
