Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Britton.
Hi Sam, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have been creative since a child. Always drawing at a young age. I got a lot of support from my mom and dad over the years. When I was around 11 years old I remember going into my first tattoo shop and being allowed to watch my dad get tattooed, I was hooked. I said from then on tattooing is what I was going to choose as my career. In early 2014 I landed an apprenticeship under my mentor Tone Mendez and in October 2015 I started tattooing as a full artist no longer an apprentice. Along the way, I’ve worked at a few different shops and learned a lot from all the talented artists I’ve worked with. On May 1st, 2022, I open the doors to my own private tattoo and art studio Cathartic Art Gallery. I couldn’t have done it without my wife Nikki who has supported my entire journey and my wonderful clients. I offer high-quality award-winning tattoos, art, and leatherwork at an affordable cost in the Brazoria County area. I strictly work by appointment only to offer a more personal and comfortable experience.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been an easy road, but nothing good in life is ever that easy is it? I’ve always struggled with anxiety and depression, so it’s definitely been an uphill battle. I recently lost my mother in January, so I’m still processing that while also keeping my head down and focusing on my success. Just out here trying to make my Momma proud.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have been tattooing professionally for 7 years. I try to be as well-rounded as possible but I enjoy doing neo-traditional, traditional, and black and grey realism. I also do custom paintings, wood cutouts, and heirloom quality leather products. I’m most proud that my business is self-made. I did a lot of the remodeling myself, work by myself and really worked hard to make it all possible. I think what sets me apart is that I’m not really worried about what others are doing. I’m just really passionate about the work that I do. I don’t want to be the best, I just want to do my best.
What were you like growing up?
I was a quiet kid. I did art, played guitar in a few local metal bands, and probably did a lot of things I shouldn’t have been doing growing up. My mom tried her best to shield me from a lot. I got “Momma tried” tattooed on my face for her.
