Hi Sameria, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story is not a straight path, I’ve started and stopped many times, but I always knew I loved beauty & plus size fashion and I wanted to share my passion for the industry with people. Strangers would stop me all of the time and would ask “who did your hair/makeup?” or “where did you get this? Can you show me how to do that?”
So I began creating content centered around beauty and plus size fashion, giving all the tips to be a “baddie on a budget” and owning who you are. Confidence and empowerment are big focuses for me. Recently toward the end of 2022, I began landing brand deals and promoting different businesses around Houston. I created a portfolio and decided it was time to be consistent.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing ever comes easy, we’d be here all day counting the losses I faced behind closed doors.
The biggest struggles were losing people either to death or having to cut them off, overcoming imposter syndrome, and trusting God’s timing. Sometimes we crave things so much that we’re not even ready for them.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I create content for plus-size women with a normal lifestyle. I balance motherhood, being a wife, full-time accountant, and I’m a full-time grad student. I’m definitely known for keeping my face beat and wearing whatever I want no matter the size. Growing up I was always bigger and I didn’t really see women like me living confidently with no regrets. I take pride in loving the body I’m in stepping outside of plus-size fashion norms.
I know there are other women with the same niche as me, once Lizzo broke out all of the plus-size baddies started showing out, but I provide a higher level of transparency and authenticity that people relate to. I’m not afraid to show y’all it isn’t always together and you have to work with what you got. I’ll say what most won’t and I give honest reviews on products I’m recommending.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Covid-19 has taught me to cherish each moment and go after anything I want no matter how outlandish because you never know when you’re time up. Very cliche but it’s the truth.
