Rising Stars: Meet Shanel Walker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanel Walker.

Hi Shanel, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I always been around entrepreneurs my whole life my mom is an entrepreneur, my grandfather is one and I’ve always been interested in starting a business since I was in my early teens but I never knew how to even start or where to start. Since around 2018, I started researching about how to sell throughout school, I actually started selling candy and cookies in school and made an income. That’s when I knew “Wow” I actually like this, this is very smart. So I bought cookies and chips put them in a bag and sold them in school. I soon began to have a passion for making my own lipgloss and lip scrubs so when I began to have an income I bought all the inventory I needed to buy for it and I started to make the scrubs and lipgloss and the creativity began flowing like a river and it was very cool to see my potential manifest into reality the very thoughts I had seen was a reality. Recently I started a dropshipping business and I am an affiliate Marketer. I just started this new opportunity and I’m excited to help others and see how this goes. It’s a challenge but the challenge is crucial for the growth and expansion of the mind.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road is definitely not easy. It’s still a challenge because I didn’t know you needed your own brand. Make yourself a brand and let your character speak for you first. The hardest part is marketing when you don’t know how or what works specifically for you. It’s the people you thought supported you that really won’t and you have to understand that most of your customers and supporters are going to be people who you simply just don’t know. The other hardest thing is knowing that comparable success isn’t progressing anything it’s actually holding you back, you will see others’ success but not realize how they had to struggle or what their story is or even how they did it. Microwaveable success is a blessing but it’s very rare. Most of the biggest and successful companies started slow and didn’t even get to their fullest potential until years after they became a success.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am known for my fashion, when I was in middle school, I had the best dress. I’m known for always dressing up and it’s honestly very rare that I let myself not dress up if I do I’m either sick or sad. I’m proud of myself for keeping my promises and actually putting in the effort, effort is more important than anything because it shows you actually care about yourself and you care about what you believe in. I would say I set apart from others because nobody has my dna of course and I’m the only shanel you can’t afford lol, But seriously my heart genuine people who actually care for others is rare because so many people are hurt and they end up hurting others but my goal is to help as many people as I can I see this business as more than me it’s because of God I owe it all to him. I have to help others I can’t watch people struggle I got to do something about it.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Instagram! Instagram! Instagram! That’s it that TedTalk, lol. I would say follow people who inspire you or are entrepreneurs in the same field that you are interested in or have a passion for. I would say the best way to find a mentor is to find someone who has a brand something that stands for and humbled. Someone who has had a coach themselves, someone who is successful in what they do and someone who is passionate about helping you and isn’t into for just the money or what they can take from you. It should always be mutual. Instagram is a great source for that because the connections are legit everywhere. YouTube is a great way to find mentors as well because you just don’t know who’s connected to someone who can help you expand and Coach Stormy, Les Brown, Neo, EllieTalks, Etc are people that have inspired me and their personalities gravitated me to them but the knowledge that have will help you understand how abundant your mind has to be in order to receive. Networking for me has worked because if you have a mentor, then that person has a mentor that they will help you. Connections is everything; it’s not about what you know; it’s WHO you know. Always remember that. I’m still learning and connecting but it’s the best way to success, I promise you.
