Today, we’d like to introduce you to Shanice Lewis.
Hi Shanice, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
My story is very unique. I started writing in my journal at the earliest I can remember, 8 y/o, and I grew a love for writing. I went to undergrad years later to be an elementary school teacher and taught for 6 years before pivoting into my new career. Unhappy with teaching, I went back to my love for writing and would indulge myself in my small business, The Writing Co., where I felt most valuable.
I left teaching for an entry-level role at Amazon corporate, where I was afforded the opportunity to earn a degree or certification on the company’s dollar.
I went on to earn a certification in data analysis, which is more of technical writing. While still working for my small business, I was then found on LinkedIn for an extra special role as a Google contractor. Being able to write for Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the wildest dream I could’ve ever had. The experience I’m gaining at the company gives me the status that only comes from above. Now, my resumes are seen to be tried and true due to this opportunity! I am forever grateful.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road was not the bumpiest, but I can say the path was not clear.
The decisions were made with consultation of a higher being. I had no idea what the outcome could be, but I put my faith in everything working out for me, no matter what.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a writer at heart. I have a three-year-old baby idea, The Writing Co., that has opened a huge door in order to write for a Fortune 10 company in an emerging market. At Google I’m a writing analyst, and I must say it doesn’t feel like work.
My company specializes in résumés and cover letters, and my life’s work is to support others in their career. I’m most proud of my resilience and my ability to never give up on what is near and dear to my heart. I get to wake up every day and do what I completely enjoy. What sets me apart from others is my passion and desire to be the best at everything I do.
I’m a person who gives 110% in everything, always, especially when it’s so good back to me. What will come next has to be better because what comes after working for your dream company? My seat belt is buckled, and I’m ready to find out.
What changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In the next five years, my industry will for sure head into automation with AI. AI isn’t as smart as humans, but it’s much faster.
The writing I complete for my business will have to be completed more efficiently, and as for the AI models I’m working on, they can only become smarter. It’s like a human earning more degrees or reading more books.
