Hi Shynikia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started my business “Purpose Walk LLC” while trying to navigate life’s challenges, which traced back to my childhood. I endured molestation twice, once by a family friend and once by my uncle. At 16, I experienced date rape that was thwarted and an attempted suicide, though I didn’t follow through. I grappled with anger toward God, seeking understanding amidst the turmoil. Later, I found myself in a dangerous domestic relationship where my life was at risk. With children depending on me, I had to make crucial decisions. Out of these trials, my purpose emerged.
“Purpose Walk” emphasizes the importance of walking in purpose despite our past traumas. I believe that what God has in store for us surpasses our current struggles. Through communicative and creative writing, I offer a means of healing for adults who have suffered from violence, sexual assault, and trauma, as well as for children from sixth grade and up. Writing has always been my solace, a way to express what words fail to convey. I aim to teach others this healing outlet, helping them find peace and mental healing.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been easy pursuing entrepreneurship or business in general. I’ve had to make changes that align more with my purpose. Often influenced by social media and others’ success, I found myself pivoting my business several times, trying to make an impact. However, I learned that mimicking others isn’t the right approach. It’s essential to stay true to your purpose. I’ve had to refocus, reset, and remember that what’s meant for me will come to me. It’s crucial to focus on my path and let my actions speak for themselves.

As a writer, author, and public speaker, my business, Purpose Walk LLC, is a creative writing initiative that serves as a community for women who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault, or trauma, as well as for children. I teach them to use clear, concise, and complete communication—the three Cs—to help them feel safe, seen, and supported—the three Ss.
I offer a unique approach to mental health, providing a different outlet for self-expression. Writing allows individuals to visually see and analyze their thoughts, aiding in the processing of emotions. My goal is to help people understand and process their thoughts and feelings.
My children’s book, “The Train,” is one of my most notable works. However, what I am most proud of is finding my purpose and using my experiences to help others do the same. I want people to know that they are not alone in their journey.
What sets me apart is my refusal to remain silent about my story. While everyone has a story and a purpose, I believe it’s my responsibility to inspire others to find their purpose and let them know that they are not alone. Even if only one person hears, sees, or reads about me, I believe I have fulfilled my purpose as ordained by God.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
One aspect of me that many people might not realize is that despite my outspokenness and passion for sharing the vision God has placed in my heart, I also have a touch of shyness. It’s not rooted in fear but rather in my desire for people to truly grasp the message I’m conveying. I can be a bit reserved because I want the message to be received exactly as it sounds in my mind.
