Rising Stars: Meet Todd Travon Rogers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Todd Travon Rogers.

Hi Todd, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I graduated from Texas Southern University in the Spring of 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Print Communications and a minor in Radio, Television and Film. I’ve always been interested in working in the entertainment industry. My ultimate goal is to create a media platform with a focus on print, digital film and live event production that caters to Black LGBT creatives. When I was laid off during the pandemic, I used my free time to stay productive by starting an LGBT+ web reality series on YouTube with some of my closest friends.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been as easy as it looks. Actually, producing a show with little to no budget sounds impossible, but we did it. We shot Season 1 in the middle of a pandemic with just two cameras and a mic. I was very confident that we would be able to produce a 6-8 episode mini-series on a low budget, but the marketing side made me nervous. We focused a lot of our attention to social media for free promotion.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I started the Real Hot Boys TV platform in 2019 with the launch of a web reality show centered around a group of Black gay men as they navigate their friendships and careers after coming together for a summer. The Real Hot Boys: Houston Season 1 was co-produced with Ryan Barker and starred Ashton Spencer, Deandre Marquez, Sherrod Contral, Kenny Fluellen, August Scales, Bralyn Medlock, and Archie Black.

I am proud to say that we are one of the first Black gay web reality shows based in Houston, Texas.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
The Real Hot Boys brand is continuing to grow. Over the past year, we have expanded the Real Hoy Boys brand to other cities like Los Angeles and St. Louis. The Real Hot Boys: Hollywood (Executive produced by MalcolmXtraHD Productions) premiered as a spin-off in June 2022.

We are always looking to collaborate with other creatives and bring on more production members: writers, camera operators and editors.
