Rising Stars: Meet Torri D’

Today we’d like to introduce you to Torri D’.

Hi Torri, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
As I’m sure many can relate, I kicked started my passion – sharing my love of fashion and traveling – during the pandemic via starting my YouTube career, building it from the ground up with support from my social following. I describe my style as chic minimal, and seemingly effortless, which is a bit ironic because my love for fashion actually began when I started following the Met Gala red carpets about 10 years ago in college via Tumblr.

Two things I remember having chats with my friends about when we were younger were, “Just wait until I can afford my actual style!” and dreaming about the different countries we’d vacation to. I grew up a military brat and one of the only ones I know who mostly enjoyed moving to new places.

Outside of YouTube, my full-time job is an engineer, and I have worked very hard to get where I am. I actually did not know a lot about STEM growing up, but I knew I loved math and science. Even back then, though, I kept creative avenues in symmetry – through drawing and written poetry. When I got to college, I was extremely influenced by my peers, who were amazingly hard-working and talented in simultaneous technical and creative fields. I have been blessed with a career that has opened so many doors for the things I enjoy in my life. God’s grace, my parents pouring into me, and unwavering support from my friends have brought me to where I am today.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road is never smooth, but it can help shape us. I tend to be my own worst enemy. Having been surrounded by so many talented and accomplished peers through my life and career, I’ll have moments where I question if I’m capable enough.

Throughout my time in school, my engineering career, and my YouTube career, I have fallen into that self-deprecating imposter syndrome hole many times. I have found myself discouraged when I am in seasons where I am struggling to find that balance in the different lanes of my life. The support from my loved ones and little reminders to myself of my accomplishments push me through each time.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My YouTube channel @Torri D’ is what I am most known for. I focus on fashion and traveling. With regards to fashion, my focal point is designer bags and accessories – the pop of extravagance that balance to my self-described style. I elude to luxury items and experiences on my channel, but I intentionally try to avoid using the term “luxury” because it is relative to each person. If it elevates or brings peace to your life, that’s luxury!

My personal brand is one that exudes light-heartedness, serves inspiration, and represents black women in opulent spaces.

I want my viewers to feel like they are right there with me – from bringing them shopping to breaking down every detail, providing styling inspos, and making them feel connected to my me and my friends on adventures. I always aim to do my best to connect with my viewers. I feel most proud and joyful whenever I have someone tell me that I helped them or made them feel like they were a part of the experience.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I have learned is to focus on what sets me apart and go for what I want. There may be other people on the same road, but you are in control of what you do in your lane. When you work hard, pray, and are intentional with who you surround yourself with… what’s meant for you will come.
