Rising Stars: Meet Tricia Symons of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tricia Symons.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We’re a family of five from Huffman, Texas. In 2018, we lost our beloved Rhodesian Ridgeback, Pipa, to cancer at just three years old, a week after her diagnosis. It broke our hearts and it was devastating to watch the pain of my five and six-year-old children lose their beloved friend.

Research took us to a South American’s blunt response, “You live in America–you feed your dog out of a bag. My dogs have never had cancer. We feed them real meat from the butcher.”

It sparked a fierce mission – to learn how real food heals.

After initially sharing our professionally created raw recipes with friends and family and witnessing one transformed pup after another, we launched Go Raw Pet Food to share nature’s best—no processed junk, just fresh, USDA-sourced ingredients to bring pups back to life.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely, we’ve had challenges. With a background in restaurant management, and education, entrepreneurship has been a blast of a million to-dos and 10 different routes to get there. There is no easy way to grow a new business, the secret is to try and fail and try again, over and over. Enjoy the process, roll with the failures, fix problems as they come, and always have a piggybank of savings for slower months and broken equipment. Our struggles have mostly included the wide world of marketing and strategies, and navigating the constant rise of costs.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Go Raw Pet Food is a an answer to so many prayers, I firmly believe it has grown and been blessed because of our Lord. I am proud that I can be a present mother and own a small business that helps so many people’s dogs and their families. Most of our customers find us because their friends and family have fed our raw food, word of mouth is our best marketing strategy – lol. The friendships and trust we’ve built with our customers have been significant and instrumental fo us. I am proud our ingredients are all human grade, even before that was a trend. I am thankful to have a full life of purpose for the wellbeing of so many dogs; old and tiny, pregnant mommas, and new 4 week old pups. I am thankful to get to do this work. And oh boy, it’s hard work.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
As a little girl, I wanted to become a veterinarian and loved biology but my dyslexia presented significant challenges with testing and scores to go that route. I am crafty, and love to be in the kitchen, I baked a whole lot when I was younger and have recently picked it up again. I love dogs, always have, and love nutrition. Without any effort, I am always reading and learning about food and how to best fuel ourselves to live long and healthy lives. It’s no surprise I ended up making health forward raw dog food.
