Today we’d like to introduce you to Wannetta Chopane.
Hi Wannetta, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Wannetta Choapne and Ive been a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) for 20 years, building a solid foundation in healthcare. Recognizing the importance of life-saving skills, I became a CPR Instructor 10 years ago. I expanded my expertise to include training in phlebotomy Technician Instructor and as a CNA Instructor, sharing my knowledge for the past 4 years.
Ten years ago, I took the entrepreneurial leap, initially teaching CPR for your employer. I then transitioned to being fully independent, building and growing my own business in healthcare education. This demonstrates my dedication to both my profession and my entrepreneurial spirit.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As an LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse):
Physical and Emotional Demands: Nursing is physically demanding, requiring long hours on your feet, lifting patients, and dealing with stressful situations. Emotionally, you’re constantly exposed to illness, suffering, and sometimes death, which can lead to burnout.
High-Stress Environment: Understaffing, demanding patients and families, and the pressure to provide excellent care can create a high-stress environment.
As a CPR, Phlebotomy, and CNA Instructor:
Keeping Content Current: Medical guidelines and best practices change frequently. You need to stay updated on the latest information and incorporate it into your curriculum.
Engaging Students: Keeping students engaged and motivated, especially in potentially dry or technical subjects, can be challenging. You need to find creative ways to make the material interesting and relevant.
As a Business Owner:
Financial Management: Managing finances, including budgeting, invoicing, paying bills, and handling taxes, can be overwhelming, especially in the early stages.
Marketing and Sales: Attracting students and clients requires effective marketing and sales strategies. You need to promote your services and differentiate yourself from competitors.
Competition: The healthcare education market can be competitive. You need to find ways to stand out and offer unique value to your students.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My passion lies in empowering others with essential healthcare skills, which is why I’ve also dedicated myself to teaching. I’m a certified CPR Instructor with 10 years of experience, and I’ve been a Phlebotomy Technician and CNA Instructor for the past 4 years.
Essentially, I run my own healthcare education business. I specialize in providing high-quality, hands-on training in CPR, phlebotomy, and CNA skills. I’m known for creating a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel confident and prepared to enter the healthcare field or respond effectively in emergency situations. I focus on practical application and real-world scenarios to ensure my students are truly competent.
What I’m most proud of is seeing my students succeed. Whether it’s a CNA providing compassionate care to a patient, a phlebotomist drawing blood with confidence, or someone using CPR to save a life, knowing that I played a part in their success is incredibly rewarding.
What sets me apart, I believe, is my extensive experience as an LVN. I bring a wealth of real-world knowledge and practical insights to my teaching. I’m not just teaching from a textbook; I’m sharing my experiences and lessons learned from years of working directly with patients. This allows me to provide a more comprehensive and relevant education that truly prepares my students for the challenges and rewards of a career in healthcare.”
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
“While I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished, I know I haven’t done it alone. Several people have played a significant role in my journey and the success of my business:
My students and supporter’s, has been my unwavering supporter throughout this entire journey. They believed in my vision for the business from the very beginning and provided the emotional support and encouragement I needed to overcome challenges and keep moving forward. This has allowed me to focus on building the business.” Their trust in my expertise and their willingness to learn and grow have been incredibly rewarding. Seeing them succeed and knowing that I’ve made a positive impact on their lives is what motivates me to keep doing what I do.”
