Rising Stars: Meet Will Vail of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Will Vail.

Hi Will , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Will Vail, and I am a videographer who grew up in Katy, Texas. I went to a private Christian High School where I found my interest in film. My initial plan was to study computer science; however, after failing the AP test, I decided to look elsewhere. In my senior year, I took a photography class where I learned the basics about cameras. From there, I was hooked. I started to dive into photography and eventually music videos and film. I decided to take film more seriously, so I enrolled in the film program at John Brown University. There I worked on several short films, produced my first short film, edited for the school, and made some valuable connections. During my time at John Brown, I also worked for several companies and did several freelance jobs where I was able to gain experience and fine-tune my skills. After graduating, I started working full-time, but I still do video projects on the side. I am currently working on building a personal brand through social media and YouTube to help promote companies and expand their reach. While I do this part-time, I am looking to be full-time by the summer of 2025.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey has been anything but smooth. It has been difficult to keep consistent clients or have a steady income from the work I provide. Another major challenge has been the idea of perfection. Several projects that I have worked on for myself, I haven’t released because I believe that since they aren’t perfect, there is no reason to share them. However, even if the project has flaws, it can still impact someone in a major way, thus giving it a purpose, even if it’s just one person. Another major challenge is comparison. Whether it be social media, friends, family, or just society, there is always going to be someone you can compare yourself to. In addition, there is always going to be someone who is going to be better than you at something. With this, there are two options: to give up or keep striving to be the best version of yourself. What has given me confidence in my skills and the drive to keep getting better is not the skills that I provide but the person I am in Jesus Christ.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a creative influencer on social media, and I specialize in telling visual stories. I am mainly known for my social media presence, but I am looking to expand to YouTube, where I can provide a deeper look into my personal life and journey. I am most proud of my short film Look Up as well as my 28-day series on Instagram. This pushed me to create meaningful content used to motivate and further the Kingdom of God. What sets me apart from others is my ability to be authentic while also telling visual stories that evoke emotion. I’m not just doing this for myself but to give back to the community, to help others, and spread the gospel.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years, I see myself doing film full-time with the ability to work with several different clients and make meaningful connections. I also see myself being a big influence in the social media industry, bringing people to Christ through my content as well as helping brands grow. In addition, I am wanting to direct a short film that I have been working on for the past couple of months.
